Question about NAD L40 CD Player

CD PLayer won't play CD's

I got this off eBay because the amp part is working fine and it was offered at a great price. Would like to get the CD part fixed but I don't want to pay $150+... When I put a CD in the player loos like it is trying to read it but spits the CD out few seconds later. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: CD PLayer won't play CD's

Hi First of all, you must find all the screws for the top cover and remove it. Make sure the unit is not plugged in! Then, making sure that you are not touching anything inside the unit, plug it back in,put a Cd in the drawer, and watch what happens. If the drawer closes, but you can still hear a motor running, then it is a belt drive unit, and the belt is slipping, if that part is ok, listen carefully for a ticking noise, which is the laser lense going up and down trying to focus on the CD, if the disk starts to spin then the mech has closed properly, and the unit is trying to find the directory. If the unit then spins the disk for a while then ejects it, then the laser is dirty or faulty. I would suggest getting it cleaned at a shop if the lense appears dirty. ***Never look straight down at the laser lense if it is exposed on your model of CD player, it is a class 3 laser, and you will be doing some harmful home laser surgery to yourself!!!*** Hope this helps! Good Luck! P.S. When following the steps above, if you hear the ticking of the lense moving up and down, but the disk does not spin, gently spin it clockwise with your finger, if it starts to play, or finds the directory, then the spin motor is bad.

Cd won't play

Use a DVD authoring software package to burn it - most DVD players need the information in DVD Format, so "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS" folders need to be there with video in VOB Format. I recommend IMTOO DVD Creator 6 or above. Drag video in, and click burn. Taaah Daahhh a working dvd pops out. Use DVD-R discs for best compatibility and you should be fine :)

Can I order a remote for this player? Thank you

You can't order one here, since Fixya isn't a manufacturer's site or parts vendor. But replacement remotes for your model are available. The remote is RMT-V501C (Sony part number 9-865-061-20). A search for the remote returned several sites selling them at a variety of prices. There are some sellers on eBay offering them as well. I'm not going to supply links because I don't know where you are (if you aren't in the US they won't help) and may be outdated by the time you see this. But if you do a search for the remote number you should find a seller.

Cd player skips

unit has a faulty spindle motor. the reason it plays OK on its end is because the bearings have failed and causing it to mistrack. a dopr of fine oil to the top bearing of the motor will make it work better but the motor needs to be replaced to fix properly.

`Sony CD player won't play burned discs

Many of the older Car CD Players will not play CD-R's or they may with static sounds behind the music. What you need to do is try using a different brand of cd-r disc. If this doesn't work then it means that you may need to replace the CD player because the model that you have may not be decoded in order to play CD-R, CD-RW, play MP3's or anything of that such.
Get back to me if this doesn't work I'll help you square it away.

Question on what type of cd's it will play

Same question was asked in a separate post, and I believe it should. Most burnt cds have songs in either WMA format, or mp3 format. Either should work fine on your Sony player. I have a Panasonic surround sound system, and the head unit plays 'em just fine. Sounds great too. Try it and let me know how it works out.

Nad C542 Troubleshooting

found same problem with mine, solution .. place clean paper over the optic, then a magnet, leave for a few seconds, the build up of static causes a magnetic field in the optic preventing it tracking, have cured a few other brands with this as well .. shows manufactures are putting inferior parts in to their players, hope this helps !!
