Question about D-Link (R) DIR632 WirelessN 8Port Router

1 Answer

Dir-632 slow throughput on wired lan

I have had this issue since getting this router. Large file transfers between two computers, both wired, results in 900kB/s to 1.1MB/s transer rates. If I plug in my old router (an older dlink which is also 10/100) I get around 9MB/s. I have the latest firmware and even tried a 3rd party fimware with the same results. Any idea?

Try a factory reset. You can do a factory reset by logging into the router using you browser. Go to the settings and perform a factory reset

If you forgot the router password, you ill have to do a factory reset by locating a small hold on the back of the router and insert the tip of of paper clip for about 10 seconds while the power is on. The router will be reset to out of box status and then you can ssets-up form scratch.

D-Link router settings for connecting to a TIVO - wired

It is all about managing the IP's. The router and TiVo should be set to DHCP. This will allow auto IP addressing. It could also be set to static, but this requires more managing on your part.

Very slow wifi connection from router dlink dir-600

I had this issue also. If rebooting the router does not improve or trying a new cable between your router and internet modem, you will have to do a factory reset. You can do this by logging into the router and selecting factory reset by locating a small hole on the back of your router, insert the tip of a paper clip for about 10 seconds with he power on, and this will reset your router to factory settings and of course you will have to set-up everything from scratch.
Maybe do a firmware update at the same time.
Usually you can login on your browser to you router and go to the management section to check for firmware updates and select that button and it will download and install the firmware. On some models, you have to go to the D-link web site and look for firmware updates for your router. Always check what you current firmware you have installed and check the version of you router modem (A, B, C etc). Then you can manually download the firmware (usually in a ZIP file), open the zip file, and then using your browser connected to the router look for Update Firmware. You will have to go to where (folder) you saved the downloaded update and select that file. It is recommended that you update using a LAN connection and not a wireless connection.

My internet connection is ok but when i sign on to messenger and start video call then my connection starts to slow down causing the sound to become like robot and the video on the other end freezez up

You didn’t mention if you’re using WIFI or not? If you are using wireless, try moving closer to the router for a better signal or use a cable. This is a bandwidth issue as video and voice are intolerant to delay so you get dropped packets and reduced call quality. If the problem is on your LAN then it could be solved by getting a router with higher throughput or using a wired scenario. Alternatively, if the problem is on the WAN a higher broadband speed may be appropriate.
Quality of service issues are difficult to solve on home networks because there is not normally any method of changing the priority of traffic.

Hi,

It's true that using router and adapter of the same brand will give you maximum performance. And YES, you can confuse both router and adapter. No matter whats brand, you can boost your adapter performance by changing its link speed or duplex to 100M/Full Duplex. This will gives you maximum performance then Auto Function of the Duplex.
Logically its NOT True but Practically I have done it many time.

Slow lan (file transfert) with zyxel ES116P and HP ML150 server

Try forcing the ports that the server connects to on the switch to 100Mb Full duplex, sometimes one side negotiates incorrectly, and the switch can set itself to half duplex, even though the other end is set to full duplex.
