Question about Chamberlain Powerdrive PD422D 1/2 HP Security Plus Screw Drive Garage Door Opener

Need to replace carriage on stanley sd450 opener how is it done?

When opener tries to open the door the screw vibrates and it sounds as if the part in the carriage that is attached to the drive screw is stripped and the door will not open. The opener will close the door just fine. Also, the door opens and closes properly when it is not connected to the operator.

How do I replace the carriage assembly? The opener is a Stanley SD450 with a date code 96503

Thank you.

Tom

Same problem. I haven't unbolted the screw drive section yet, but there seems to be a hard stop near the end which would prevent the carriage from sliding off.

Please make sure you don't have broken springs first and that the door is balanced properly. If so you can replace the "Trolly" by disconnecting the arm from the opener, undoing the opener from the bracket that mounts it to the wall. This usually takes a 1/2 in wrench. Then swing the opener out far enough to slide the trolly off and replace it with a new one. Re-connect everything then re-engage the trolly.

Amazing, I am facing the same problem this morning! The problem is the carraige assembly is stripped. The threads are good enough to push the door dow, but not to lift it. The real concern is that I replaced mine once already 3 years ago and now it is broken again. I am considering a new opener this time because either the door is too heavy for the stanley opener, or it is just a poor design.

Replacing it is easy, you just unbolt the screw drive section and slide the old off and the new on. The part isn't cheap. There are several places that have it on-line for $35. It is part number 49223.

Good luck.

Actually the Stanley design is very good. If the carriage wears out quickly it's an indication that the tensioner springs are not evenly adjusted so that you can open the door easily with one hand.

This part needs to be made to where the threads are deeper so it can make firm contact with the drive and should be made of harder plastic or steel

How do I put my chain back on a Stanley 8500 Garage door opener?

First you must make sure the sprocket on the garage door opener is spinning clockwise and reaches its limit and stops, you can easily put a pair of pliers between the #1 and #2 terminals on the garage door opener and start the sprocket spinning or just grab a remote and watch from the back of the unit (looking towards garage door ) and make sure it,s direction is clockwise, Once it stops you wanna loosen the chain enough so you can position the carriage which is connected to the chain and with your door closed send the carriage down far enough so that the carriage and the trolley both engage then all you have to do is put the chain over the sprocket and tighten up the tensioner that is located on the trolley...not to tight and not to loose is what you would want in an adjustment !....now since you already ran the sprocket in the down position your door is now ready to test ...when you press your remote or wall station the door will travel up, You have to do it this way , if you don,t ..you can damage the machine or your door ! Good luck and hope I was able to help you with your dilemma!

If the spindle is installed correctly, "floating" does not hamper proper operation. Review your installation and make sure the floating spindle is properly sated in the handle and alignment is maintained during the tightening process

If it is a screw drive like mine all I needed to do was lube up the screw with a product called "fluid film" and all was ok. The screw was binding making the sensor think the door was blocked and it would go back up.

It seems you mistook Carriage Jam as Paper Jam, but they are different issues. Carriage jam means the carriage that carries the cartridges is jammed which needs to be moved or be cleared manually after opening the door.

My stanley deluxe garage door opener suddently stopped. It only makes tik tik sound. What do i do?

You may look at the safety sensors. Try holding the wall button down. If the door operates with the button held down then it is the sensors. Try to align them to look at each other. If not you are probably looking at either replacing the sensors or the logic board. Thanks BB
