Question about Sony Multi-System Mini Hifi Systems / DVD Shelf System

1 Answer

I have had my Philips Magnavox FW754P Mini HIFI System with Dolby Pro Logic for several years and I cannot play any CD's on the 3 CD changer. It says in the manual to get a lens cleaner disc and run through the system. The only one I could find was a Memorex OptiDisc lens cleaner. It did not work in any of the trays and keeps showing NO DISC. I have not used the CD player for awhile so I do not know how long it has been like this. I cannot afford a new system so please help me keep this oneone alive. Thanks alot, Karla Kelly

A replacement laser assembly should fix your problem.

SOURCE: How can I get the cd changer to stop changing non stop?

Something is out of timing. When powered up, the unit trys to get to a known state and will continue until it reaches that state. If the timing of the gears has been changed, this may not occur.

I'll try to see if I can create a set of instructions to re-time this.

SOURCE: MP3 CD not recognized by Sony-Error "No Disc"

the mp3 files have to be recorded in the ISO9660 level 1 or level 2 format, or the Joliet or Romeo in the expansion format.
Please note this is verbatim, straight from my Sony manual.
For details of your recording format you will have to see your converter's help or configuration files.

SOURCE: i have a sony 3 disc changer mini hifi stereo

I do not have any experience on your type of hifi but i reckon dest error refers to "Destination error" the 3 disc changer has a default home position of the disc carousel that it goes to when first starting up. I would suggest that somthing is preventing the cd mechanism from getting there to it's home when it starts up. This could be from a cd or foreign object jam, broken motor( or worn motor) broken or dirty sensor that detects where the mechanism is or broken cable connecting the two.
The key to finding this out after you fix the jam, would be to note if the mechansism is travelling, whether it sounds forced or if it's not moving at all. this will tell you whether it's motor or sensor related.
As I said I don't have any experience on this one, perhaps someone more qualified could comment...
Good Luck!

SOURCE: sony 3 disc changer mhc-gx880 has broken belt. How

You have to open the unit with screws in the back and push it out by hand, there should be a series of gears that you have to spin for the tray to come out. You may be able to gently push it by hand to come out.

This is a fairly common problem with discs changers. The laser has failed or is too dirty to read the discs. You can try a laser cleaner such as:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000J1QK?ie=UTF8&tag=dependascient-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00000J1QK

But otherwise you will just need to replace the unit.

On rare occasions blowing canned air inside the unit towards where the discs are when they spin could free it up, but it is far better to use an actual laser cleaner. They almost always take care of the issue.

Thanks
Tim

How do I get the C5 Subwoofer to activate?

Hello
If subwoofer is inactive now, the sound preference settings you set now is wrong.

Before using the remote control for the following
operation
* Set the remote control mode selector to AUDIO

** There are exceptions in the operation mentioned
above. In such a case, follow each instruction

Dolby Pro Logic II*1

# Dolby Pro Logic II has a newly developed multichannel playback

format to decode all 2 channel sources - stereo source and Dolby

Surround encoded source - into a 5.1 channel.

Dolby Pro Logic II has two modes - Movie mode and Music
mode

# Pro Logic II Movie (MOVIE)
Suitable for reproduction of Dolby Surround encoded sources

# Pro Logic II Music (MUSIC)
Suitable for reproduction of any 2 channel stereo music sources

# Dolby Digital*1

Used to reproduce multichannel soundtracks of the software
encoded with Dolby Digital

# DTS Digital Surround*2

Used to reproduce multichannel soundtracks of the software

encoded with DTS Digital Surround. DTS Digital Surround (DTS) is another discrete multichannel
digital audio format available on CD and DVD software

MY cd player is not playing cd

If you can gain access to the lens, try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to resolve the problem, the optics are starting to fail. You should be able to find replacement optics for around $40 or so.
