Sparking means all safety circuts are satisfied so problem is no gas to pilot. Possibilities are in order of common occurance; spider web in pilot oriface, stuck gas valve (most common on spring start up after heater has been sitting out of use), pilot tubing leaking, no gas supply from house.

SOURCE: My pentair minimax plus 250 M pool heater won't

For most pool heaters, if they will not start up in the spring, the problem is corrosion in the wiring somewhere... I would remove and clean all wiring connections and then try. The amount of current is very small and so any bit of corrosion can cause the unit not to work.

It all so could the t-stat again, but you would need to check that with an OHM meter. No continuity when the heater should be on will confirm that the t-stat is bad...

Where can I find helpful instructions for replacing (removing old and installing new) thermocouple on Pentair 250k minimax ch NG mv? Thank you.

  • Insecure bracket holding the pilot assembly to the burner tray
  • now, remove the pilot assembly from bracketry
  • unscrew old pilot generator/thermo pile or thermocouple
  • new may have a clip instead of threaded nut
    • diameter of hole is same so it should just snap into place
  • in reverse order resecure the pilot bracket to burner tray

Igniter works gas kicks on after igniter stops if it would spark a little longer it would lite I can lite it with a match

Check igniter! You don't have the right spark? Lots of times it will short out & you can see the sparking elsewhere other than just at the gap at top of the igniter. The other thing to check is ensure that the orifice is completely clean at the pilot burner. A clean pilot orifice and the proper spark will ignite the heater.

The heater is sparking but the gas is not coming on and firing up. The problem is sporatic, some times it fires, usually not after a rain

Right off hand I would say check the pilot for soot. It can transfer spark so you can hear it but keep it from sparking hot enough to fire.

The pilot light on my pentair minimax ch 250m will light, but when i switch button from pilot to on the flame goes out on the pool heater.

More than likley this is a bad thermocouple and will need a new pilot assembly. But it can also be a short in the safty circut, rat chewed wires or a bad gas valve. It may be best to get a repairman involved. Or you can just drop each switch out of line and jump past them to check. But part changeing can get pricy. Good luck.

Purex Triton Minimax 400 pool/spa heater not igniting

This sounds like you have a problem with your pilot. You can check this with a small mirror to see if their is a spark when you turn it on. If you have any soot build up on the pilot that will stop the spark and keep it from lighting also. If you have a short on your pilot wire this could be the problem also. I hope this helps, good luck.
