Here is a link to a repair guide for the LG L196WTQ. It sounds like you have a power supply failure and the guide shows how to open the unit, check the power board and then what to replace if you do find bad capacitors.

http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/lg-l196wtq-bf-lcd-monitor-repair/

Problems like wavy or flickering picture, flashing power light, slow to display the picture or no power at all are all symptoms of a failed or failing power supply board.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

My LG monitor will not powerup

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The monitor LG Flatron L 1710S turns ON only for 1 sec and then turns Off. If  turn  On  again is  the  same

You may have capacitor failure (bulging or leaking) in the power supply (very common problems in ALL monitors), failed transistors or transformers in the back light inverter circuits, or bad lamps due to poor solder connections, poor solder joints on PCB. You need to open it up and look inside, post back what you see so we can guide you further. See example of failed monitors for guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

My 194wt worked great for 3 years, now it wont turn on at all. is this the normal life of this monitor ? how can i fix this ?? ive confirmed 120v at power inlet and some dc voltage on various mini pins on...

Same problem as above. Had mine for 2.5 years and worked fine until I tried to turn it on this morning - won't come on at all. I have tried another power cable and verified that another monitor works on the old one.

LG 1718S-BN comp monitor, power light off; monitor won't display.

I know this may seem simple to you, and I'm not talking about the power light. Your monitor tilts up and down at the top of the stem connected to the base. At the top, where the stem connects to the back of the monitor is the hinge that allows the monitor to tilt up and down and it should be covered in plastic. You should be able to see what looks like a metal rod going through the stem and the monitor. If you squeeze together the plastic on both sides, they should come off to reveal the screws that hold the stem to the monitor.

As far as the power goes ... my first thought is a fuse (won't turn on and no power LED) or something has blown your power supply.

After you get it open let me know what you see.

Is it over heating? Is your computer set to let the monitor go into standby after a certain amount of inactivity? Check any and all power settings. Next time it happens, have a feel to check and make sure it isn't over heating...
