The symtom your describing is that of a worn or loose belt. There is a belt safety switch on the motor mount that is actuated by the travel of the idler arm. If the belt is worn stretched or broken the dryer will not start because the belt safety switch has actuated.
This is a matter of changing the dryer belt. In the process of the belt change check the drum felts front and rear for excessive wear, Worn drum felts / seals can losen the belt so the idler travels to tighten the loose belt and can cause the belt safety switch to be activated. .
BEFORE you go directly to the belt as the problem check the door switch. You should hear and audible CLICK as the door just opens or closes. No CLICK = no start. I.e bad door switch.

Is the starter turning over the engine when it wont start or is nothing happening at all?

If the engine is turning over but not starting then switch on the ignition and push it to start.If it starts you probably need a new ignition switch.
Three things you can check the door switch is it clicking? The thermal fuse you want to make sure there is continuity or worse case would be your motor.
Check your door switch and wires to see if they are damaged first.You may have a bad Start Switch.If it is a 2 wire switch you can tape them together and then plug in dryer ,if it starts,replace the Start switch. Please Rate this!
