On/off push botton will not stop at top or bottom. It will just continue to go up and down unless you push the button when you want to stop manually.

It has nothing to do with the top switch. There are two separate trigger switches that control the vent and gear. My vent arm came loose from the motor shaft and the trigger switches were not actuating. This was causing all of my problems that included the goose neck fan would not stop at the top and bottom, the fan would not work, etc. All works now after a 2 hours disassembly and reassembly. What a terrible design.

Thermador CVS36R Cook'n'vent vent won't go down and fan stopped workin

You probably will find that the vent is clogged with grease. A switch device works with the vent so the fan operates only when the vent is open and does not operate when the vent is closed. Things should get back to normal after a thorough cleaning unless the fan is defective and won't operate at all.

I have a Broan Elite 2736 downdraft range fan that is 3 years old. Upon using it , it started to go up and then down without stopping until I unplugged it. I replugged it in and it continues to go up and...

Broan model 2736A won't stay up

In my case, I pushed the button, the housing goes fully up, then right back down. I removed and disassembled the unit for cleaning. After Assembly I located two microswitches that cause the extension moror to stop at the top and at the bottom of the swing. In my case, the inertia of the motor caused the unit to "Coast" thru the top of the stroke and continue back down. I bent the outer 1/3 of the metal tabs that depress the microswitches so that the unit stopped rising a wisker sooner and no longer goes back down without pushing the button. The same coasting theroy may apply at the bottom of the stroke. The motor that runs the up and down motion is controlled by three switches, the two limit switces plus the momentary push button switch. If you don;t need to completely remove your unit for cleaning, the microswitchs can be located by removing the fan housing and looking up from inside the cabinet (under the stove) on the right side. IN my case, there was 10 years of goop to be removed.

Downdraft vent won't stay down. Push the button and it retracts normally, then pops right back up?

check your bottom limit switch - i'm guessing its bad. the unit doesn't stop operating til it trips a (working) limit switch, if the switch is bad it'll cyle right past it and go back up until it hits the top limit switch (again).

Pivot arm in telescoping downdraft system sticks when closing

Having the same problem. Unit worked well for 1 1/2 years and then suddenly it dropped after I was thru using it and pushed the arrow for it to go down after it dropped the power wouldn't turn off - had to unplug it.. Repairman came out , took it out, lubricated it , re-installed and next time it went up fine, vented fine but when it went down it dropped again and power wouldn't turn off again. I am hesitant to call him out again unless I can figure out what else might fix the problem. I have noticed that the top piece now seems to be bowed a bit. I guess I can have him take out the cooktop but think there must be enough room for it if it worked fine for the 1 1/2 years. It is a soapstone countertop.

Up & down push button not working

Repaired the same problem several months ago. The up/down control has a very small switch located under the button. The switch is part of the selector switch assembly that costs upwards of $100. However, the switch itself is available from Digi Key electronics part # P12321-SCT-ND at about $1.00 each, plus shipping. If you can handle the unit disassembly, which is extensive in this repair, and can solder very small switches, this is an inexpensive fix. I suggest you buy some spares. I'm looking for a seal replacement for this unit right now. Good luck.

Cook 'n Vent Downdraft Up/Down Mechanism Replacing

just the switch should be replacable. My vent has a screw at each end (philips flatheads - accessible only when vent is up) just under the top cap. Removing the screws and cap should give you access to the switch. Just make sure you cut your breaker off first.

Thermador cook top with down draft ventalation

I would think you can. Most of the cooktops are 240v and the vents are 120v, so the vent may be feeding off of one of the cooktop's hot wires. My vent is fed from it's own receptacle but is harnessed along with the cooktop's 240v.

Thermador downdraft does not stop going up and going down automatically

I had a similar issue with the Thermador CVS30R hood continually going up and down, and also issues with the fan starting.
The issue was found to be a loose control arm off the motor. The arm itself moved outward on the motor shaft which resulted in it missing the switches that control the hood up/down and fan start.
This was a somewhat simple fix. Make sure the hood is in the down position. Unplug the unit from power(important!). Unscrew the screw that connects the drive arm to the drive link. Unscrew the motor/control cover, then unscrew the 4 screws holding the complete motor/control unit on (2 Phillips-head screw on each end of the assembly). Pull the complete motor/control assembly out, be careful of wiring. Once out, push the drive arm on firmly onto the motor assembly and tighten the screw. When doing so make sure the 2 micro switch arms are not caught and are free to switch.
When placing the unit back in, ensure all wiring is clear from being caught and ground is reconnected. Put it all back together and done!

Downdraft doesn't alway go down and up.

I have the same problem. Seems to be pretty common that the motor that raises the unit goes bad. Ours is 2 1/2 years old and has not seen that much use....that motor should not have failed that soon...and this is a high end product!!! I have been quoted $289 for a replacement motor and $150 for labor!! So, $450 bucks....gads. The unit, new, cost about $900, as I recall.
