Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop
Hi i wanted to play and burn movies on my dimesion 2400,so i bought a dvd play/buner to install but i dont know how to get the cover off nor do i know which drive to replace - the one on the top that i use for software or the one on the bottom that i can burn cds on? i also would like to know what drives and softyware i 'll need after i actually get this thing put in properly? any help would br appreciated!
The dell cases open with either a button on top or bottm and pull the case open or an L shaped clip you press down and that side of case slides backwards towards you and clips off. Inside the case you will see clips to take the front cover off to take the cd drive out (you can remove either but i suggest you keep one that is a burner) unscrew the drive so it can slide out and slide the new drive in and screw into place, attach the cable exactly the same as the way the cables are attached on the old drive. You will need to make sure you also change jumper settings on the cd drive you are putting in so it is the same as the old one you took out. It is a bit fiddly to do if you are unsure then ask a friend most teenagers are well savvy at taking cases apart and putting drives in now its an easy job.

Just instal Nero, and when you burn you cd or dvd, you will see all speed for your cd rom.
You must know that speed depend and from type cd.

SOURCE: I have a dell dimesion
Generally, yes, if it's the same version, (e.g., "Home Edition, or "Professional", etc. Then the Operating System disk should get you going well enough to start all the necessary updates You may need to go to Dell and download the model specific driver files, updates, etc. to get everything !00%
Make sure you have the right Microsoft Product key for the installation.
Best thing you can do is back up your system and keep it somewhere separate, with all this info. There are many good free utilities for system specs., such as Belarc Advisor. It's easier to fix a broken system when you can automatically put everything right from backups, where ever possible. You are thinking ahead, instead of after a disaster!

Is it a CD drive, a CD burner, a DVD drive, a DVD burner or a Blu-Ray drive? Have you tested all types of cds for the drive? Do certain ones read and noth others? What version of Windows are you running? Did it stop working after a program install or a system crash?
