be careful the voltage may be different thats why they make them with different plug configurations. check your dryer voltage requirement. usually the four wire type are for 250vac electric dryers.

might want to check your dryer outlet. If the terminals are loose in there it could cause you problems. If your dryer plug is a 4 prong you might be loosing one of your 220v legs due to a short . As the dryer runs the wires and connections will heat up and expand , if there is a faulty wire or connection then it may loose connection after a load. could be quite dangerous and a very possible fire risk so i would check it out ASAP . if the outlet is old they sell for about $20 at you local home depot or lowes home improvement. for a 3 prong plug you need to hook up the black and white wires on the brass screws and the copper ground wire to the green screw. in a 4 prong application you hook up the black and red wires to the brass screws, the whit wire t the silver screw and the copper ground wire to the green screw .

If your new dryer is supposed to be a 4 prong plug and you have it with a 3 prong cord then you will run in to issues . The difference being a 4 prong electric dryer is a dual voltage unit where it needs both 220v and 115v to operate correctly, where a 3 prong dryer only has 220v and the earth ground. if your not familiar or comfortable with electricity please call a qualified electrician to come hand handle the work. if not done correctly it can cause fires or possible electrocution

Need to install a 4-wire/ prong dryer cord strain relief assbly

The green wire attaches to the dryer cabinet. There should be a green screw in the cabinet for attaching the wire. If not, you can always drill a hole for a ground screw.

The loose green wire you see is the reason the code was changed to a 4-wire cord.

They wire in the same except the green wire will go to a ground screw which should be right in the same area with a green color to it. If no ground screw, hook the green together with the white (center) wire. Hope this helps!
