Thanks but not worth the repair cost (my opinion). I purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS10 today from B & H.

This is a Panasonic and not a Canon. I purchased a replacement Panasonic but thanks for taking the time to check into this.

Sound like a CCD sensor problem; you will need to visit your local photo technician in order to solve it, CCD sensor need to be replaced.

CCD image sensor itselft; this is a few commun propblem the manufacturers have stated an intention to correct the problem free of charge, regardless of the current warranty status of the individual camera. For specific details on the repair process. Some of the advisories have noted that for cameras outside warranty, any camera problems unrelated to the CCD sensor issue will be treated as regular unwarrantied service, which is logical.

Just as reference, check this Canon article: support-asia.canon-asia.com=notices-digitalcameras-lcd

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

My screen is black

Your screen is black because the light in the screen of your computer is burnt. If it's a laptop, or the light is burnt, or the memory card of the laptop got out of the place it suppose to be. If it's a desktop, then you have to ask where you bought it, and they will say if the screen light is broken or there is something else.

Today 12/16/2010 my HDTV 42 in plasma model 42px12x.41. made a "popping" sound in the back of the screen and the screen went black,( yet there is still sound and a couple of green and red light...

PLASMA TVS DONT HAVE INVERTER CIRCUITS. YOU MOST LIKELY HAVE A Y-SUSTAIN BOARD FAILURE. IT IS THE BOARD TO THE LEFT LOOKING FROM THE BACK. THE LARGE ALUMINUM HEAT SINK LOCATED ON THE BOARD AND THE PART SCREWED TO IT WILL BE THE DEFECTIVE PART.

Black screen

Hello,

yes, its the light. Its called screen bulb. The bulb is burnt, that's why the screen cannot be lighted up.

The solution is to take it for repairs. There is not settings or adjustment required.

Best regards.

Monitor comes on and can see picture, but almost black screed have to look real close in order to see screen piture

Sounds like the back light on your monitor went out. All LCD monitors and TVs have a back light that is used to illuminate the pixels on the screen. This is how the "Brightness" setting on your monitor works. If this back light is burnt out, then it would be possible to faintly see the colors on the screen, but they would be nearly invisible as the light that was supposed to illuminate them is burnt out.

The solution to this problem would be to replace the back light on your monitor, but that is a very time consuming effort and you run the risk of it not working in the end anyway. I recommend purchasing a new monitor to save yourself some time and a major headache.

If you are still interested in repairing your monitor try going here for a guide on how you go about doing it. It may also be possible to find someone to repair it for you, but once again, it would be a lot easier to buy a different monitor in the long run.

Back light or inverter. my screen is black.

If you see a very dim image or black screen or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
