Jvc av-32fa44 tv--loud pop, then off and won't turn back on. buy new?
I turned on the tv, all was fine for about a minute. Then the tv made a very loud pop, and the tv screen went black, then out, no sound. The timer light is green, but the tv power button will not turn the tv on. TV's tag says it was manufactured in 2003--so this is only five plus years ago.
Is it worth the cost of the repair (whatever it is), or should I just get a new tv?

Sounds like one of the front panel buttons is jammed. press each one and see if any fail to "rebound" or feel different from the rest. You can usually work the button in a 'circular motion" to release it. If the buttons seem normal , it's possible that the switch inside the TV has collapsed
sounds like a popped power capacitor, its going to have to go to the shop most likely around 100.00 repair. taking the back off yearly and airdusting them helps, especially if you have a smoker in the house. caution high voltage present even when off, the heavy single red wire going to the tube is high voltage be careful.
If the set is dead after the popping sound, then it has probably blown a component due to high voltage. Everything inside a tv starts with the power supply. Nothing will work unless the power supply is 100%. I don't know what your rates for repairs are in general, but the price sounds good. The final decision is yours to repair or replace. Good Luck, JUS004
You didn't mention if you saw fine white diagonal lines running through the screen from top to bottom. If so, you likely have a shorted Picture Tube which is not usually fixable. If there are no lines seen running through the screen, then it is possible the High voltage transformer which also has a screen voltage and focus control built in that could be bad. I would expect the cost of that part to be about $100, so the repair cost total could approach that of a new set I would guess.
You could have a power supply problem as parts do go bad. Why your set faile is a mystery.. Of course if your not a technician, a TV set is NO place to be experimenting with. It only about a year old you say But get the papers on this set if you can find them and make sure as there is a 12 month warranty on this model.
