How do I remove a brinks deadbolk lock from door

1. Open the door.
2. Unscrew the 2 screws on the inside and the 2 screws on the edge of the door.
3. Pull the thumb turn off, pull the outside cylinder and ring off, and pull the deadbolt assembly out of the edge of the door.
4. Unscrew the strike plate from the door frame and remove it and the plastic thing behind it, if it was installed.
5. Throw the whole thing in the trash. I wouldn't even reuse the screws!

How to tighten kwikset #991LL

Remove inside lever by loosening the setscrew and pulling. Carefully pry off the inside cover. Make sure both screws are tight. Replace inside lever. With door unlocked, the outside lever can be removed in the same way as the inside. All that is necessary though is to be sure the setscrew on the outer lever is tight. Check to be sure the lock is tight and operating correctly before closing the door and locking it.

The deadbolt inside turnbutton is held on with a small setscrew. Remove it and the inside cover. Be sure the screws under the cover are tight. Check the lock operation, replace cover and turnbutton.

How do I fix a Schlage deadbolt. B60 series will not unlock from the inside unless the key is inserted from the outside

With the door open, remove the interior trim (thumb turn) from the door, and using the key, turn the deadbolt to the locked position. Now re-install the thumb turn, in the locked position, and with the key removed see if you are able to unlock the deadbolt. I suspect that the tailpiece (part that sticks out of the lock cylinder and into the thumb turn) is not in the correct position.

Have a new quickset on entry door from garage. works fine for a couple of days then will not unlock. key will turn and can manually move latch from inside, but lock will not release....any ideas? greg

There is a tubular "Lazy cam" or tailpiece that passes from the cylinder on the outside operated with a key through the bolt and into the thumb turn on the inside. There is as "E" clip that holds the tubular Cylinder bar or "tailpiece" in place. Fixing it to the back of the keyed cylinder. The center portion of the clip ( that differentiates it from a "c" clip ) passes through a slot in the Cylinder bar to limit its "free rotation" this allows the tailpiece to turn freely enough for the thumb turn to operate the bolt from the inside without binding against the keyed cylinder on the outside, from the outside when you rotate the key far enough in either direction the clip comes to the end of the slot, catches and rotates the bar to operate the bolt. your problem is a broken clip. It is very common, and has been a vulnerability with this design for decades. The cause is usually tension on the bolt during operation with the key ( bolt dragging or rubbing against the strike on the frame) . You can replace the clip and relocate the strike plates on the frame to avoid this again or purchase something a little better than Kwikset.

Just installed a Schlage secureKey deadbolt. The key goes in the keyhole but won't turn. The inside works fine - locks and unlocks.

the first thing to check is to take the hardware off the door and check the lock cylinder with the key and make sure the key works the cylinder,, lots of times the tail piece is in the wrong position and will not allow the lock to turn. also - sometimes the latch and the lock are not lined up and bind, preventing the cylinder from turning.
but maybe the cyclinder itself is keyed wrong and if you take it back to the store where you bought it you should be able to swap it out for one that works,, install that one and all should be good.

How do you correct a lock that's installed up side down?

There is no real orientation to a lock, but if the key has to be inserted with the teeth up and you prefer with the teeth down, just remove the 2 screws holding the halves of the door handles on, and remove the outside one, rotate it 180 degrees, and put it back in again. It should work fine.

The key for my kwikset door handle lock won't unlock the door anymore. it worked just fine after installation and for several months and then suddenly it won't unlock the door handle lock. backup key...

Hi,
The answers to your problem are very numerous.
Usually what has happened is that when the lock was installed the pins (the part of the lock that rides on the cut part of the key) were not facing down. This allows dirt and debris to collect in the pin holes and also if a spring breaks it won't push the pin up to the cut part of the key. Some locks you can't even rotate to a position that faces down.
What I suggest is removing the knob or lever lock from the door and blowing out the key hole with compressed air. Work the key back and forth through the lock and blow it out again. If this doesn't work ... try and get a refund or a replacement from wherever you got it. Remember your time is worth money and so is your frustration. Don't waste allot of time trying to fix something that can be replaced relatively cheaply.
Thanks,

My front door has a Roto R627 lock. I can't get

If the deadlock moves a little bit, The deadbolt may not be lining up with the hole. Put some lipstick on the deadbolt tongue and try to turn it. Then check where it is hitting the frame. You might have to just tighten up the hinges to shift the door position.
