Question about Samsung SMH9151 Microwave Oven

Open Question

Samsung microwave model SMH9151B has no power.

I accidentally touched the fuse holder with a screwdriver and shorted it to the metal paneling on the microwave. The microwave had no power so I replaced the fuse and that didn't work. I ordered part SN-UF12A and replaced it, but am still not getting any power at all. No display, not lights, nothing. What else could it be? Thank you.

There was power to the microwave when I touched the screwdriver to the fuse and paneling. There were sparks and the microwave immediately stopped working. Yes, as I've been told thousands of times, I should have turned off the power first! The fuse was blown but replacing it and part SN-UF12A did not fix the problem. Please help or offer any ideas. we have been without a microwave for many months now. John.

SOURCE: No power

It may be the fuse, which is usually located behind the grille or on the floor of the oven behind the control panel, between the door switches, or inside near where the cord goes into the chassis.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

Or another common problem, is surge damage on the control circuit board. We regularly repair these control units for customers nationwide with our guaranteed $39.95 service.

You didn't mention your model number. If I knew that, I could check to see if it's one of the models subject to a recall for failed membrane keypads.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

I would suggest pulling the control board out and looking on the foil side (opposite the component side) for "ring cracks," most likely on the low voltage transformer's connections.

The board may have the screen-printed reference designator "T1" near the low voltage transformer.

Also be sure the fuse is not easy to turn with your fingertips when it is in the holder. If it is, the fuse holder is too loose and must be replaced (not just squeezed with pliers).

You can order a fuse holder, part number WB06X10034 for $6.49 (subject to change) from the Pros here.

If you have any keypad issues, please note that the membrane keypads for this model have long been discontinued.

FixYa does not directly notify us experts of responses, so if you have other questions, please contact me directly.

How to change a fuse in a GE Spacemaker XL Microwave

  • 1 Remove the old fuse from the compartment that the control panel was covering by grasping it and pulling it out. Place a new fuse in the compartment and push it firmly into the holder until it snaps into place. Connect the wires to the control panel according to the labels.
  • 2 Place the control panel on the microwave and install the retaining screw with the Phillips screwdriver. Install the grill on the microwave and snap it into place. If your microwave grill has retaining screws, install those and tighten them using a Phillips screwdriver. Plug the power cord in for the microwave or turn the power on at the breaker box and program the microwave according to manufacturer instructions

The display panel readout has a 5E or possibly a SE on the dislplay constantly

SE error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

You have a shorting membrane keypad. If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

We would need the model number in order to provide you with free assistance.

It will be one of these:

    SMH9151B
    SMH9151B/XAA
    SMH9151B/XAC
    SMH9151BE
    SMH9151BE/XAA
    SMH9151S
    SMH9151S/XAA
    SMH9151ST
    SMH9151ST/XAA
    SMH9151ST/XAC
    SMH9151STE
    SMH9151STE/XAA
    SMH9151W
    SMH9151W/XAA
    SMH9151W/XAC

It is usually found on a tag located inside the cooking cavity or around the door frame or controller frame.

Since FixYa is still not notifying us when you respond to clarification requests, you will have to post a new help request with your model number and symptoms / questions, or you may contact us here for this free assistance.

In some cases, it is a simple do it yourself repair.

Touch panel will not work - the only thing I get is a flashing notice across the screen "simply samsung". Thought maybe a fuse blew.

It's very likely that somebody has accidentally set the oven into demo mode; something which is accessed by a secret keypress sequence for display in retail stores.

If you state the exact model number of Samsung oven then I'll try to supply you with a more specific answer.

SE error on Samsung SMH9151B. Where so I find the assembly part to order?

"SE" error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

The full model number from the tag on the oven should be one of these:

    SMH9151B/XAA (service manual)
    SMH9151B/XAC (service manual)
    SMH9151BE/XAA (service manual)

I've included the service manual link for each one for your convenience. They'll help you with disassembly and in getting part numbers.

You can order parts by entering part numbers or your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

There are three ways you can fix this, with the last probably being the best:

    1. Replace the membrane keypad ("switch membrane"). The cheapest way but the hardest. If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved. It's here.

    2. Replace the control panel frame assembly ("assy control panel"), which comes with a new keypad on it already. Pretty easy, not expensive.

    3. Replace the entire controller ("assy control box"). Very easy, and usually not much more than option 2.

No matter which option you prefer, at our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

Microwave keypad does not respond and screen reads SE

"SE" error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

The exact part you need will depend on the model number, which will be one of these:

    SMH9151B SMH9151B/XAA SMH9151B/XAC SMH9151BE SMH9151BE/XAA SMH9151S SMH9151S/XAA SMH9151ST SMH9151ST/XAA SMH9151ST/XAC SMH9151STE SMH9151STE/XAA SMH9151W SMH9151W/XAA SMH9151W/XAC SMH9151WE SMH9151WE/XAA.

On some models, you can just order a new membrane keypad and replace it. It's cheap, but a lot of work.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved. It's here.

    On other models,
the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job, but it costs more.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help and a free estimate for us to do it for you.

The hotwire to the lights touched the frame and sparked. The micro completely shutdown, no power at all, is there a fuse or something?

    Yes.

There is an internal fuse in a ceramic holder towards the top of the oven, however a direct short as described could also have taken out one of the micro-fuses on the PCB panel as well.

If you know how to discharge the capactor and ground it before poking around, check the continuity of the main fuse in it's ceramic holder. If that is OK then unfortunately the PCB may require replacement.

No display on microwave touchpad for ge Model JKP62G

The GE JKP62G Microwave / Oven combination has an internal fuse behind the control panel for the microwave. The oven will operate but the microwave will be totally dead (no light, no clock). Turn off the breaker for the oven at the fuse box (30 Amp double breaker). In order to replace the fuse you will have to open the door to the microwave, remove the two screws (Torx) from the front control panel (located on the left edge of the control panel), wiggle the panel to the left (there are two metal tabs that stick into the metal frame of the microwave on the right of the panel) and then tilt the panel down from the top. There is a metal bracket that holds the control panel to the microwave at the bottom (don't remove it). Look towards the top of the microwave inside the area behind the control panel and you will see a 15 Amp screw in fuse. Replace the fuse and that should fix your problem.
