I was going to watch the movie 88 Minutes, but after inserting the disc, was asked to update to version 2.30. I answered Yes, it copied something, then displayed the message Press the PS button. I tried but nothing happened. Now my screen is frozen, and I can do anything. I can't turn the Playstation off, or use any of the buttons. I unplugged the Playstation, thinking lot other computers it would just reboot when I turned it back on, but now I can turn the Playstation on. It looks like I'm dead in the water. Any help?

Update to version 2.50. I accepted and downloaded the update, then displayed the message Press the PS button. I tried but nothing happened. Now my screen is frozen, and I can do anything. I shut down the PS3 by the master power and even took out the harddrive and reinstalled, but every time it powers on it goes straight to the frozen screen asking me to press the PS button.

We had the same problem with the 2.30 update. Nothing happened when we pressed the PS button on the wireless remote.
Then we plugged in the remote and it worked. We think it's disabling the bluetooth during the install.
Before you send it in, try plugging the thing in first.

I figured mine out. I used my laptop and swapped out the hard drives, booted up my laptop with the PS3 harddrive with a copy of windows in the CD tray and reformated the drive. then simply swapped the two drives back and booted the PS3. It required that i format the drive again via PS3 but after that worked fine. I guess the more expensive fix would be to buy a new harddrive if you wanted to upgrade while you are at it. Hope this helps.

Every time its gets to 62% is says an error with (8002F997) ive tired the method by swiching the media sever to disable but that didnt work. what eles do i do

Error code "8002F997" means your PS3 is having issues updating your system software directly via internet. As a workaround you'll use external storage media, such as a USB thumb drive, to transfer the software to your PS3

1. Requirements

- A USB cable (not necessary if using a USB thumb drive)
- A PC with Internet access
- Storage media or a USB Mass Storage device such as a USB flash drive

2. Downloading and saving the software

- Plug in your USB drive to your computer, and create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data. Create a folder named "PS3" on the storage media/USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named "UPDATE".

- Download the update data from

http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/us/2011_0310_91ee193a2fa921a6fce780fc40236e3b/PS3UPDAT.PUP

and save it in the "UPDATE" folder.

Note:

Be sure to save the update data as noted below. If the data is not saved in the correct way, the PS3 will not recognize the update data. The folder name must be in all uppercase letters.

-> Location: Save in the "PS3" folder > "UPDATE" folder
-> File name: Save as file name "PS3UPDAT.PUP".

3. Updating the PS3 software

Note:

Do not turn off the PS3, or remove the USB drive, during the software update!

- Insert the USB drive/storage media into the PS3
- On your PS3, from Home Menu (second icon from the left) -> System Update ->Select [Update via Storage Media].

The system automatically searches for and finds the update data saved on the storage media or USB device.

Hi buddy You can update your system software by any of the following methods:
  • System Update »
Update using the PS3™ system's [System Update] feature.
  • Update using a PC »
Download update data using a PC and save on storage media* or a USB Mass Storage device. Copy the update data to the PS3™ system's hard disk drive and perform the update.
  • Update using disc media »
Update using update data that is included on a game disc.
*An appropriate USB adaptor (not included) is required to use storage media with some models of the PS3™ system.

I hope this will help you.
