SOURCE: dvd writer wont accept dvd-r

If you have posted the correct model of writer, then it only supports the writing of DVD+R and DVD+RW discs, but CD-R and CD-RW disc writing are supported, and it should play all forms of DVD, so it won't burn DVD-R and RW discs, but if it wont play all types then try a cd/dvd cleaner, but to be honest when writers start playing up the lens is normally faulting and a replacement drive will be required.

use a unfolded paperclip and insert it into a small hole below the disc tray. This is the manual eject port. Stick it straight in and push, a little bit of pressure will be needed.

Can I open a jammedDUW1616/ARR DVD

Look on the front of the tray where the eject button is There should be a small round hole, this is for ejecting a stuck disk. Just open out a paper clip and insert in to the hole and press until the tray opens.

After installing AOpen are Drivers FREE?

The drivers should install automatically once the optical drive is installed. (Assuming good power and data cable connections) This optical drive may have come with a CD/DVD burning program when new. If you have the original CD, you may be able to use that program depending on your OS.

Otherwise, there are several free DVD burning programs but your OS and willingness to deal with "extras" may limit your choices. Nero Lite is free if you accept the Nero Ask Toolbar: http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero9-free.php . This should work with all versions of Windows. Ashampoo Burning Studio is well liked by many: http://download.cnet.com/Ashampoo-Burning-Studio-Free/3000-2646_4-10776287.html . This is for XP, Vista and Win7.

Basic drag and drop burning of data to an optical disc is included in Windows from XP up.

I hope that this helps.

My dvd-writer/cd-writer combo will not open?

look a tiny hole in the front of the CD/DVD drive use a paper clip to pull out the tray, when you have the tray out use the EJECT bottom in the drive to close and wait 3 seconds and press again to open, do this at least 3 times.
