Simpletech signature mini 16GB external hard drive - blue and red lights do not turn on

I have a simpletech signature mini 16GB external hard drive and a couple of weeks ago it was experiencing some weird clicking but both the red light and blue light were on and after some delay my files finally appeared. I just tried using today and neither the blue nor red light show up anymore and there is no noise, it seems to be completely dead. is there anyway i can recover my files?? thank you.

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

if this fails to fix the problem
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap

if you need help obtaining the usb card post a reply
hope this helps

I had the same type of problem and found when I took the cover off that the harddrive worked loose from the plug. Pushed back into socket and reassembled, works great.

SOURCE: my signature mini hd doesnt work........

With this situation, only a data recovery company can help you. I am afraid that there is some mechanical damage to either the case or the hard drive. If you can remove the case and test the drive, you may be half way there, but if drive is clicking, it is best you leave it to professional data recovery. That is what I do, but you don't have to send it to me. You can bring it to your local shop to see if they can help.

SOURCE: I plug my Simpletech Signature Mini hard drive in

When you plug the drive in, Windows should recognize it and make it immediately available for your use.

To confirm this, click Start then Computer and it should show up as a device with removable storage. If you click on the Signature drive, you will see the contents of the drive and you can use it just as ou would your "C:" drive.

I dropped my drive and now the computer won't recognize it. The blue light is on with the red light. Help!

Sorry to hear that your drive is having trouble. When you start the drive, do you hear it turning?
Is this a external that you can remove the hard drive? You may try to power down the external, power it back up and shut down your computer. The conect the external and turn the computer on.

Let me know if you can hear the driver turning and it you can connect after going thru the process above.

It sounds like your hard drive is dead. If you have tried it on a different computer and it did the same thing then your drive isn't booting up and is probably bad.
