the great thing about sony is you dont need the remote to do menu functions. there is a flip down panel in the front that has the menu, cursers, and select buttons. just select the tab you need in the menu (channels) select the type of input (cable :on/off) then auto program. be sure to have the VCR off so not to program the channel 3 only.

I turned the TV off. I held in all of the (4) buttons on the front of the TV and turned the TV back on again....this seemed to free up the remote control access and I was able to work the TV normally. The four buttons were the channel and the volume controls.

on my set - I discovered by accident - that holding down the channel changer buttons together at the time - with set off . bam my tv turned on and the menu came up
