Question about Microtek ScanMaker i900 Pro

Imac 27 purchased and imac with snowleopard 10.6 and now we cannot get the Microtek i900 to work. Will do the pre scan but then "Silverfast Launcher fails"..

When you say -'normal' prescan you do mean you get an image? If this is so I would remove all software. Do a disc clean Reboot the computer Re install the original supplied software-ignore for the time being any down loaded upgrade, Come back tell me what you have

Try checking the ribbon cable going to the scanner head, it may have a bad connection causing an error as it flexes at a certain spot.

Try placing your paper at different places on the scan bed. Also if you have fluorescent lights on nearby turn them off.
Also is your driver compatiible with your OS?
Did you recnently upgrade anythin?

Microtek's last version was for 10.4 and is worth trying on 10.6. drv_sw5_v7_565_ad.dmg
Otherwise the popular VueScan supports virtually every scanner on the market. There is a free trial version to test your scanner here. http://www.hamrick.com http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#microtek
I've used VueScan for over 5 years and it's much easier to use than than Silverfast. The only downside is you can't scan from inside PhotoShop etc. as it's a standalone application and not a plugin

Nikon has formally sworn off doing ANY future software updates for their scanners. They stopped at 10.4 (pre-Leopard)

I have an Epson Perfection 3590 Photo and when I tried to open it this appears:"escndv.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the...etc." I have already downloaded the Epson Scan...


This file that cannot be found "DICElib.dll" is actually installed by the LaserSoft SilverFast driver that comes with both scanner models. This file gets placed in the Epson Scan folders during installation because the LaserSoft SilverFast Driver works in conjunction with the Epson Scan driver for communication to the scanner. The solution to this issue is to uninstall and re-install the LaserSoft SilverFast Driver and NOT the Epson Scan driver.

On the "Start Here" poster it says that you have to install the Epson scan driver first before installing the LaserSoft SilverFast. Other possible causes are that the file has become corrupt, has been moved or has been deleted.

If this will not work, please call epson technical support. They have troubleshooting steps for that type of issue that cannot be disclosed here.

Please let them know if you have any other scanners or digital cameras installed on your system. If so, provide the model and manufacturer.

I have a lot of purple lines running through scans


Don't waste your scanner ! ;-)

First question:
Is the glass platen inside clean?

I think you should urgently do a color adjustment.
By 8 years using the lamp become darker and the light spectrum change in some wave lenghts the intensity.
If you are using silverfast you should use a silverfast calibration target.

Scanner Malfunctioning


Lines in the ourput could be because of dust on the glass, clean the glass. Dont use any solvent. Try and reinstall the software driver after removing the existing. Run Scandisk on the computer. Soem scanners cannot work continuously for long hours.

This link should have user manual etc. http://www.microtekusa.com/ but unfortunately the site is down at the moment - try again later. on the singapore (east asia) site http://www.microtek.com.sg/Product.php?Product=Detail&P_Id=117&Kword=scanmaker%20i900&Select=All&FirstData=0#F-B nothing obvious based on your problem, but at least it means they still acknowledge the product and that they have to support it. maybe you can spot something yourself as well. If no luck with the US website then go to microtek.com and complain to any of the other sites. Their customer service should help. If no joy from this please post again, someone might know the software. Hope this helps :)
