Hello
On some laptops you have to shutdown the computer before you connect your external monitor.
It is also possible that you have to instal the hotkey utility software for that eMachine model ,which usually come with the driver and software CD ,or it can be downloaded.
Let us know what your computer model is by looking underneath the laptop so we can assist you in making the download.
hope this helps.

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply!
I installed "Intel ® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile" utility, set the primary display to "Single Display" and set "Monitor" as "Primary Device" Now, every time I restart, the Main output = Monitor and not Notebook... Guess it is a bit off the question of Fn Controls... Hope it help someone in the future.
    Cheers

jacoj, I just wanted to ask: A) Did you connect the external VGA monitor with the monitor on? Laptop on? B) Did you perform display toggle-over correctly? Press, AND hold down on the Fn key, then tap on the F4 key? (May have to hold, and tap once more ) Regards, joecoolvette

Hello i have a problem i have a epson ex30 projector and i cant make it work with mt toshiba labtop

Hello:
When connecting a projector or second display to your laptop, you may need to tell the laptop to "clone" or "duplicate" your display onto the second device. This can be done one of two ways:
  1. A key combination on your keyboard.

    A. While holding the Function or Fn button on your keyboard, press the
Function key that shows a picture of a monitor or a computer and a
monitor. On my Toshiba laptop, this is F5.

    B. You may have to press the Function key multiple times. If this doesn't
    work, proceed to option 2.

  2. The video card driver's settings.

    A. Navigate to Start>Control Panel>Display

    B. In Windows 7: On the left-hand side of the window, choose "Connect to a
projector". A dialog box will popup. Choose "Duplicate".

You state to hold the fn, and hit the power button.....OK, whats the ( fn ) key ?

The Fn key is a key found usually on the keyboards of portable computers (laptops, netbooks etc) and sometimes on desktop type keyboards.

It is a key usually marked with a blue coloured "Fn" and is located somewhere on the bottom left row of keys.

The Fn key is used in combination with other keys that have (usually) blue letters or icons on them to activate the special functions (Fn) on these keys.

For example, on the laptop I'm writing this on; If I press F5 the computer would perform the action my software has normally assigned to F5. If however I press the Fn button and F5, the computers internal function for decreasing screen brightness is invoked.

Different computer makes have different assignment to their keyboard Fn so you can't generally say press Fn+F5 to decrease screen brightness, it might be assigned to something else, volume or sleep-mode or even nothing. The "blue" text or icon will give an indication of what it will do.

Hope this helps explain the Fn key ;)

I need an explanation as to the secondary function of the keys on my NB305. Mainly the top row of 'F' keys, but the remainder of the keyboard as well. What do all these little symbols on the keys mean?

F1 through F12 are called function keys because they execute programmed functions when pressed. Used in combination with the Fn key, keys marked with icons execute specific functions on the computer. The function executed by individual keys depends on the software you are using.

1. Sound Mute: Pressing Fn + ESC in a windows environment turns sound on or off. Press Fn + Enter to simulate Enter or the enhanced keyboard's numeric keypad. 2. Instant security: Press Fn + F1 to blank the screen to prevent others from accessing your data. To restore the screen and original setting, press any key or press the Touch Pad. 3. Power save mode: Pressing Fn + F2 changes the power save mode. 4. Standby: When you press Fn + F3, the computer enters Standby. 5. Hibernation: When you press Fn + F4, the computer enters Hibernation. 6. Display selection: Press Fn + F5 to change the active display device. Hold down Fn and press F5 again to change the device. 7. Internal LCD screen Brightness: Pressing Fn + F6 decreases the display brightness in decrements. 8. Internal LCD screen Brightness: Pressing Fn + F7 increases the display brightness in increments. 9. Wireless setting: If your computer has both Bluetooth and Wireless LAN functions, you can press Fn + F8 to select which type of wireless communication you want to use. 10. Touch Pad: Pressing Fn + F9 in a windows environment enables or disables the Touch Pad function. 11. Press Fn + F10 or Fn + F11 to access the integrated keypad. When activated, the keys with gray markings on the bottom edge become numeric keypad keys (Fn + F11) or cursor control keys (Fn + F10). The power on default for both settings is off. Press Fn + F12 (ScrLock) to lock the cursor on a specific line. The power on default is off. 12. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (reduce): To reduce the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 1 key while holding down the Fn key. (13. TOSHIBA Zooming Utility (enlarge): To enlarge the icon size on the desktop or the application window, press the 2 key while holding down the Fn key.

External monitor for amilo pro v2030

hi
when the external monitor is connected hold down the function key " f n " ( which is located 2nd on left of lowest row ) and then press either the F4 or F5 function keys on top line....the one that has a small icon like a rectangle or tv screen on it ....it has usually 3 toggle positions so if it dosent work first time then just press the same key again (still holding fn key) until it allows the monitor to get the signal.....if F4 dosent work then go thru the same sequence with F5 but depending on the laptop model it could be any one ...F3/F4/F5/F6 the usual suspects....
hope this helps
