When you say you're hearing a noise, is it a clicking sound?and is the noise coming from the back or front part of the printer?

PRINTER SHOWS NO PAPER IN DRAWER

There is a sensor that detects paper just after the paper tray. No matter what is the reason that paper doesn't reach the sensor your printer will indicate that there is "no paper".
You should check is something preventing transport system even to reach the level of paper. In the case of Lexmark E342 or E250 printers, for example, two wheels with black rubbers rotating around common axis are pushing the paper . When you pull out the paper tray the transport system with rollers can be seen from the bottom side of the printer. If the rollers are not laying on the surface of the paper they can not push it inside the printer.
If you are sure that it is not the case the next thing you should check is the rubbers mentioned above. They must be clean enough to have efficient traction with paper. You should take the rubbers off the wheels, wash them with water and soap, rinse them and thoroughly dry. Put them back and try.

It's jammed

When working with any printer it's inevitable that you'll encounter a paper jam. Below are the steps you'll want to follow when this occurs.
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Inspect the location or tray the printed paper ejects to. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.
  3. Remove all paper trays and any paper that may be stuck between the tray and the printer. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.
  4. Open the printer door that allows you access to the printer ink cartridges or toner and look for any stuck paper. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.
  5. Turn the printer back on. If you continue to receive a printer jam error try repeating the above steps again. If issue still persist and you see no paper that is stuck in the printer it's likely your printer is experiencing another hardware issues and we suggest contacting the printer manufacturer for additional assistance and/or repair.
To manually remove paper pull on the paper with both hands being careful not to tear the paper while pulling it. If you're unable to get to an edge of the paper that allows you to pull it you may need to manually rotate the gears that feed the paper through the printer.

Printer now very reluctant to pick up the paper from the tray, keeps reporting paper jam. Think this could be a problem with the rollers

Hi,
The printer could be stuck with the paper jam error due to paper still stuck inside the printer. Make sure you check under the toner, in the back of the printer and at the paper tray. If there is still paper jammed then the printer will not go to a ready state. The other problem could be that the printer sensor got damaged after removing the jammed paged. If that is the case then you will probably have to take the printer to a service provider2_bing.gif to fix it. Here is a link with illustration on how to check and removed jammed paper. http://bit.ly/aqUrn7

First and 4th yellow lights stay on

You should still be able to do a printer test page (press the arrow button).

Look at the printed page(s) for the Photoconductor AND the Toner.

They show as OK when new (or very low count), and 100% when fully used.

It IS ossible that the toner cartridge has a faulty (or if a remanufactured cartridge - un replaced) chip.

Some 'after market' chips are not compatible with E250, and it IS possible that your replacement cartridge is for an E350, or E450 (which have different chips, and some of the poorer remanufacturers , and some reselers that don't do these very often don't know).

It could even be a Dell 1720 chip on the cartridge.

I make around150 Dell 1720, 20 E450, 50 E350 cartridges a month and only around 5 E250s, so this gives you an idea of the relative numbers, in the market
