The easiest thing to do would be get a new TV plain and simple sounds as if you could use one n e ways. But first make sure you are hooked up through coaxal to the tv that will allow everything to run on channel 3. Let me know your current hookup.

I'l make sure, but I beleave L1 and L2 are inputs. You need to select the one where the show comes from, Its it coming from the L1 connector or L2.
Your device doesn't have a tuner input jack. To record TV programs on your DVD/VCR, you need to connect this DVD/VCR to an external tuner device (e.g., set top box, cable box or satellite receiver) that has audio/video output jacks.
Il confirm this and reply to you in a moment.

SOURCE: video channel
you can connect this using a set or RWY AV leads connecting your VCR/DVD to one of the TV's AV inputs. This wont require any tuning and most TVs developed in the last 10 years have AV inputs. Then you would just need to put the TV onto the AV channel you have chosen and play the video. Presto you should have a picture.

SOURCE: Channel selection
L1 and L2 are just line inputs. This unit does not have a tuner so there are no channels to select.
It requires you to be connected to a TV broadcast via a cable or satellite tuner box... and then would only record what ever channel you were viewing. The DVD is a player only.
It sounds like you should have purchased a DVD Recorder or a DVD/VCR Recorder. The players normally do not have a tuner. A Recorder should have an built-in digital tuner. Some also have the old NTSC tuner and may also have a QAM tuner.

THERE IS A TAB ON THE VCR TAPES IT CAN BE BROKEN OUT TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM TAPING OVER YOUR PERSONAL TAPES.LOOK AND SEE IF THIS IS NOT BROKEN OUT. IF IT IS PUT SOME TAPE OVER IT AND IT WILL RECORD ON THAT TAPE AGAIN.
