Question about Aiwa CA-DW248 Cassette/CD Boombox

AIWA CA-DW470 Cassette/CD Boombox, cds have trouble when get to track 8 or more

Someone gave me a cd to use to clean my boombox. I used it. Not sure if that caused a problem or if something else went wrong but after that point, I had trouble playing cds. They play fine until track 8, or 10 or more. When it hits the touble point it gets stuck sometimes or it jumps back other times. I had it into a shop to fix twice but I paid more to fix it now than I would have to reasonably put toward a new one. I can continue using it as is and just listen to part of the cds but I would like it if there was something that could be done to fix the problem. I would also like to know if using a cd to clean machines, really can cause some problems. After using this cleaner my daughter's boombox stopped working and I noticed a short while later (not sure if related) that the Symphonic DVD player that had rarely been used, wasn't working.

You can use any digital camera or camcorder in order to check the remote control. Direct the remote (press any button) in direction of camera lens. If remote works you will see the bright spot on your camera screen. If you need more info please advice.

SOURCE: CD player on boombox

The laser is dead or damaged. Try swabbing the laser with rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip, then IMMEDIATELY blowing dry with canned air. If this fails, the laser is dead. If it is a Sony KSS-2xx series laser (try to peek in the laser slot to see the decal on it) you can get replacements online. If not, it's junk.

How do I record from a tape cassette to a cd?

You cannot, with this device. It doesn't have a CD-burner... those are usually only found in VERY high end audio systems, or on home computers. That said, you can find devices on the internet that will let you rip audio tracks from a cassette player to an MP3 file, which you can then burn to a CD or put on your computer.

The cd plays first 2 tracks only and shuts on 3rd

There may be foreign material on the sled motor and or the sled shaft keeping the steping motor from advancing to next track. Especially if it does this on all CD's you try. You will have to have the unit cleaned and also the stepping motor could have a chiped gear on it, the only reasonable way to solve this problem is to have the laser assembly replaced.

I believe the lens is dirty

Maybe the lens just needs cleaning:

Radio Shack2.gif has a laser lens cleaner for DVD's (Item# 42-227 $14).
It is an "Audio CD2.gif", so read the instructions carefully and have your speakers / headphones on to listen to what is on the audio CD.

It is a CD with a single row of tiny brushes. No chemicals involved.

Get it... it may fix the issue.
