Same thing happened to my MP220. U051 chk Blk and Colour. I got my colour one replaced as there was an electrical fault in it. So the solution is to replace whichever one has the electrical fault or both and it works just fine. Refilling only works for a certain number of times. 4 or 5 at most and mine only lasted 1, so not always successful.

SOURCE: Ink Error "Check Ink, U051, BLK COL"

Try to test your catridges to another printer first if its working then you need to reset your printers waste pad counter, platen and others. You need a program like
GeneralTool for IP1800 printers.

Good luck...

Check ink

Try swapping out your black ink cartridges with new ones. This is a common occurence when using aftermarket ink cartridges. I use them myself because they're cheaper, but they tend to fail more quickly (even brand new ones).

Ink problems col vol unknown and wont print

Something that worked for me, I opened the Conon MX310. took out both cartridges, and for 10 seconds I held the Reset. put the cartridges back in, closed the lid, and again, for another 10 seconds held the reset. SLOW seconds. this reset, ink levels recognised,, and it's working as it should be.
