MS Word 2003 running slow

I am running a small network of computers and recently all computers running MS Word 2003 are running slow. You can't change from one subdirectory to another or even when you go to file open, the computers freeze up then move again. If you click mouse more than 2 times a message of "not responding" appears above.

There is absolutely nothing that has been changed with my system other than changing some unrelated software updates. If someone could please help me out here I greatly appreciate it.

I have searched online looking for help, but its like searching for a needle in a haystack to find what I need to fix this problem.

The most common reason for slow processing speed is insufficient RAM memory.

Increase the RAM, if RAM available is no more than 512MB, then it must be upgraded.

Check also your hard drive state. If you have less than 1GB free, that will slow down the system. Go to Start>>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defregmenter and do a Defrag of the hard disk.

If you have at least 1 GB RAM, and you took care of the hard drive, then you can check the process starting up on their own and remove the useless one, or spot mala-ware that can affect speed. You can use a software like Hijack This, and search on google te function of each process started on the list reported by the software.

You can download Hijack this here MajorGeeks | If download does not start, then click at the top of the page, where it says Click Here If It Does Not.
Be careful if you delete the wrong files using this software you can harm the system, and Windows may not work properly.

If you think you have malaware you can also install Spy Bot, and do a system scan. Download Spybot from The home of Spybot.

If all the above does not work, and there is no malaware, then you usually reinstall the system.

Check also the bios settings, BIOS can downgrade the CPU speed on default , even if this is uncommon on recent BIOS.

If a computer is still slow with a fresh system and enough resources then it is one of those rare occasions when you have an hardware fault.
Hardware that can cause slow down is: RAM CPU Motherboard HD Video card.

Some tips on procedure can damage your windows installation. Do not download Hijackthis software and do not change BIOS settings and do not touch hardware unless you are sure of what you are doing.

While I am not too familiar with networking computers, I suggest rebooting your server (if you have one); shut down each computer, reboot each one, defrag each one. Run your active Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware program, run a back-up and make sure that you are not running two firewalls at the same time.

Slow to respond somtimes never without removing previous requests

hello

one of several issues can cause slowness in any program or hardware

1) your HardDiskDrive capacity is peaked ( small amount of hard drive space will cause slowness in computer : you need at least 20%-25% (15-20G space to run OS and software) of HDD capacity to run your computer w/o problems

2) you may have a virus , go to www.malwarebytes.org and www.microsoft.com to download MS Security Essentials

3) run Disk defarg and Disk Cleanup

4) reinstall the Epson printer drivers if you have to , www.epson.com

I have a user running Windows XP SP3 with Office 2003. The problem is Word minimizes suddenly without any notice and the user doesn't even have to touch or do anything. I have gone through repairing Office...

Change the keyboard, just in case the keyboard is randomly sending a sequence of characters (ALT+space+underscore, or Windows-D) that Windows interprets as "minimize".

Disconnect the network-cable, to prevent any computer "hacker" from having "remote-control" of Windows.

Microsoft Word 2003 program is slow in opening and closing docs

Is your disk-drive getting "close" to being full?
That could cause "slow" file-opening and file-saving actions.

Or, find your original Microsoft CD-ROM for the software, and the matching 25-character license-key.

Then, use Add/Remove Programs to "uninstall" MS Word.

Restart your computer, and reinstall the software, using the CD-ROM and the license-key.

Access "Microsoft Update" to get all the latest fixes & security-patches for MS Word.

Ms outlook 2003

Hello CMS34809,

If MS Outlook takes 10 to 15 minutes, of course you have a problem.

Try to ask your Network Administrator to reboot the Exchange Server, and then restart your PC (client), log in to your Domain, and try to open MS Outlook. If this doesn't solve the problem, then I think that it can be an IP or DNS conflict in your network. Tell your Network Administrator to troubleshoot that.

Hope this helps

Please tell us about your progress
