Question about Nikon Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX (silver) Lens

Lens got dropped mount broken

Brand new Nikon D60 with 18-55 VR lens got dropped (strap not fixed properly). Need a new mount as it now won't stay 'hitched' to the camera body. Still takes great shot though!

Is it possible to get these kind of spares? If so then where (in the UK) can I buy a new mount assembly.

I dropped my camera and 2 of the plastic bit (it used to be metal) holding the lens to the  camera got broken. The bits were inside my camera. After retrieving them I superglued them and voila. But I won't pick my camera by the lens now.

Hello all, I have exactly the same problem, one of the plastic pieces on the mount has snapped off. Did you manage to find a replacement part?

Service manual

You have to be an authorized Nikon repair center to get the manual.

Unless you have a lens collimator and other equipment needed to ensure proper alignment when reassembling the lens, I strongly suggest not doing the repair yourself. Take the lens to a good camera shop and have a properly trained and equipped professional do the job.

It seems like you've got a broken lens mount on the 18-105mm. Take a look at the backs of the two lenses. You should see the bayonet mount with three flanges. If one or more of the flanges on the 18-105mm are broken then the lens won't stay on.

If you feel up to doing the replacement yourself, you can order the part from
Otherwise have a trained technician replace the mount.

The lens clicks twice and vibrates after each photo is taken. It doesn't happen when the VR is turned off. I didn't do this when new.

First, try carefully cleaning the lens and camera body contacts.

If that doesn't work then sorry, that's a fault which cannot be fixed on a DIY basis.

Either live without VR or send the lens to Nikon for repair. If it's under warranty then the repair will be free as long as it's not found to have been damaged by misues (such as being dropped).

The lens mount can be replaced. Any qualified repair shop can do the job or, if you feel confident, you can do it yourself. One source for the required part is here.

Nikkor Lens Cannot Manual Focus

It sounds like you had the lens set for manual focus when you took the A / M switch plate off. If this was the case then when you but it back together the little arm behind the plate is on the wrong side of a moving gear assembly.

To fix, remove the auto/manual focus switch plate from the camera (just the one screw not the ribbon beneath) Push the switch over to A. Hook the bottom of the plate back to the lens and put the screw back in. Done!
