Question about Denon AVR-3805 Receiver

Open Question

Blown sub - possible failed pre-out ???

I'm looking for some help.
I have a Denon 3805 rcvr.
I have a Definitive Tech. SuperCube III sub.
I hook it to the denon via pre-outs sub.

My deftech supercubeIII wasn't working anymore. I sent it in for
repair and they replaced 2 amps in it.

Can a sub fail because of a receiver?
Is there any way I could test my pre-outs?
Can a sub be 'blown' via the pre-outs?

I just want to try and prevent my sub from getting blown again,
on the off chance that the receiver was the cause. So I'm hesitant
to just rush back and hook it up.

Therefore, is there any way to test the pre-outs without having to be an audio guru?
I'm a computer geek not a home audio geek. I do have basic electronics and satellite
communications(not that this really matters here) training. I know my way around a

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

oh...I did bring home another sub and it didn't work when hooked up either.

I think I have a similar if not the same problem with my AVR-3805.

My subwoofer is a KHT PSW2150.

The problem is no sound from the SW in any mode, any device.

It is self powered and the power led indicates that it is getting AC power.

I live in a remote getting to a repair facility is a bit of a haul.

Is there any way to isolate the problem to the AVR-3805 or to the subwoofer with a multimeter?

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions anyone may have.

same problem here-must be the 4 -5 year mark-i am not getting any sub output-thought it was the sub-bought a new one-same problem. tried a reset of the avr-no help-must be the sub output itself on the back of the receiver-gonna take mine to the local denon service center. i have seen a couple of other posts for the same problem with the 3805.

SOURCE: preout section cannot ingage

If you are using a pre out to a sub woofer, you need to make sure that the sub has it's own power amp or it will not work. You also need to go into the user menu and tell the amp that you are using a powered sub. Otherwise it will not turn on the pre amp output

Can't get the tv sound to come through the surround receiver

This question does beg for more details. For instance, some HDTVs have an optical out which can be hooked into the Denon. This works great when the unit doesn't have HDMI I/O. I have one such Denon unit [1312] which I bought for that exact purpose. It's all I could afford, and it works. You do have to have the rcvr set on TV or whatever the optical in goes to.
Or, some people have a newer Denon and setup their RCVR to switch and only one TV input from the RCVR. then it's the cable box connection you need to check/switch to. it's not simple, but it's not that hard either. I you need more help you can PM me.

Please check your external connections, power if everything is ok then.. First please confirm when did you purchased this Active sub., This sub system is having 5years warrantee on Speaker and 3year on Amplifier. Hence, if you are the due date please give it for free checkup and replacement for parts.

I have a Denon AVR 3805 receiver. It does not have a Main Amp in or a pre Amp out in the back. How do I properly hook up the Bose 901 equalizer to this receiver? I use the 901 speakers as surround...

By properly, you must mean WITH the Active EQ.

According to this picture, you're in luck BUT...

(Short answer from personal experience.)

There is no way around this part. Get a separate power amp for the 901's if you want to use them in a multichannel way or alongside non-901 speakers. A good 100-wpc amp will do. (I like Carver)

Connect the Active EQ between the Front pre-outs and the amp input. Run speaker assignment, levels, etc and have fun.

Helpful Hint: If you don't have sufficient between-speaker room for proper reflection off the front wall you CAN turn the 901's around and you won't believe the amount of air these things push! I have actually felt it ten feet away after explosions or crashing ocean wave sounds. Now THAT is multi-media.
