SOURCE: New GE Microwave JVM1750DM1BB with F4 error in Sensor cooking

F4 means an open humidity sensor, but sometimes this error is bogus and can be reset by unplugging the oven for a minute or so.

SOURCE: Hi. I pressed the 'quickstart'

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour. Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

It may be a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

SOURCE: the microwave starts, then stops 2 seconds later

I tried a solution posted on another posting http://www.fixya.com/support/t242480-stops_cooking by placing the conductive plastic behind the control panel and it worked.

That usually indicates a keyboard error...not a good thing...take it back and get a new one.

GE spacemaker microwave turns off during cooking and display goes black

Step 1:

Door Switch

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and then shuts off, a door switch might have failed intermittently. Check each of the door switches for any signs of overheating, arcing, or burning. Also check each of them for continuity. Replace any of the switches that is visibly damaged or that only has continuity intermittently

Step 2:

Main Control Board

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops there may be a short circuit in the main control board. Check other components first, these boards are often misdiagnosed.

Touchpad and Control Panel

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad and control panel might be defective. There are several other components that can cause this problem, be sure to check any other components before replacing this board.

Touchpad

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad might be at fault. This is not common. Generally speaking, if the microwave display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but some don't, the problem is with the touchpad.

High Voltage Transformer

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the high voltage transformer might have an intermittent short. This is not common. Check other components related to the microwave symptom first.

Thermostat

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the thermostat might be defective. Watch our video on testing thermostat

GE microwave not heating, sensor error.

first suspect is the inverter board (power) and magnatron a distant second----in either case the part involved unless an expensive unit is pricey.

Power to microwave but does not cook food

You didn't mention your brand or model number, but I'll assume it's a Panasonic since you posted this under a Panasonic category.

See if this describes what's happening:
  • Put in time, push start and unit runs for 2 seconds, relay clicks, unit goes off. Cook time on display goes off and clock time comes back. Bad upper interlock switch and charred connector
If so, see http://207.234.249.73/mwd/safety.txt , http://207.234.249.73/mwd/disassembly.txt and http://207.234.249.73/mwd/doorsw.txt

Otherwise, if the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will stop the cook cycle.

If it stops after 7 seconds, it has a problem with the inverter.

If it stops at 16 seconds and is a sensor model, it probably has a defective humidity sensor.

If it stops after 22 seconds, that means the controller has detected a problem, usually a problem with the inverter, controller, magnetron, or a bad connection from one or the other.

Display codes H95, H97, H98 or H99 mean that there's a problem with your inverter, magnetron, or digital programming circuit.

That may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Kenmore Gas Range model # 362.75491990 F3 error Oven will not hold temp - error message displays and beeps I Replaced the oven temp sensor same issue Is the control panel bad?

Hi,

Many models of the GE microwave have sensors that can detect humidity from the foods you are cooking. This allows the microwave to make adjustments to the power levels used to cook your food. If "Sensor Error" appears, you should either press "Clear" to cancel the mode or leave the food in the appliance longer to give the microwave more time to detect the food.

Press "Time Cook" to manually enter the time if you receive an error message when trying to use the "Sensor Reheat" mode of your GE microwave. The error message may be caused by the food item being too large or too small to detect.

these are some other code error that will help you in case of next time.

  1. Step 1 Press "Off/Cancel" (or "Cancel/Off" depending on your model) to clear the error code. Note the code if it reappears.
  2. Step 2 Replace the touchpad if the code displayed is "F0," "F7" or "F10." A function key is stuck or shorted.
  3. Step 3 Replace the touchpad or the clock (ERC) if the code "F1" is displayed. Disconnect the ribbon connector to the touchpad. If no code is displayed after an hour, replace the touchpad. If the code displays again, replace the clock.
  4. Step 4 Replace the oven temperature sensor if "F2," "F3" or "F4" is displayed. "F2" indicates the oven temperature is too hot and the oven temperature sensor is suspect. "F3" or "F4" indicates the oven temperature sensor or shorted or open.
  5. Step 5 Replace the ERC if "F5," F6" or "F8" is displayed. The ERC is the main control unit. "F5," F6" and "F8 are codes that indicate problems in the ERC functions.
  6. Step 6 Inspect the door-lock assembly and circuit if "F9" is displayed. The door must lock when the oven is in use. If the lock mechanism is not functioning or if the detection circuit is malfunctioning, the stove will display "F9."

jQuery('.article ol .image').each(function(i,e){ var $this = jQuery(this); $this.find('img').error(function(){ jQuery(this).remove(); $this.remove(); }); }); NOTE:

"F3" codes mean your oven temperature sensor has failed or shorted out. The only thing you can do is to replace the sensor.

Take care.

What does F4 on microwave display mean?

This Kenmore is made by LG for Whirlpool. Confused yet? :D

F4 means you have an open humidity sensor.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site here, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

To find helpful exploded view diagrams and get part numbers, you can just enter your full model number at the Sears parts site.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

But Sears parts can usually be obtained for far less here by entering either the part number.

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN GE 'S HELP WHERE THEY WANT TO CHARGE 9.99 DOLLARS FOR HELP ON MY MICROWAVE WHICH IS OUT OF WARRANTY. IT IS ALMOST 2 YEARS OLD

Hi AGAIN DIBARTRK

Now that you have indicated the make of your oven....... the fault codes for GE microwaves are as follows. I have given you all of them for you future reference. :)

F1 - ( open thermal sensor ), will occur below 190F of cavity temperature within 15 minutes of starting convection, combination or roast cook.
F2 - ( shorted thermal sensor ), will occur if a shorted thermal sensor is detected continuously over 5 seconds on convection, combination or roast cooking.
Note: it will take a minimum of 5 minutes of convection run time before F1 or F2 code will be displayed if the thermal sensor is shorted/open.
F3 - ( shorted key panel ), will occur if a shorted key panel is detected continuously over 60 seconds.
Note: It will take a minimum of 1 minute of run time before the F code will be displayed.
F4 ( open humidity sensor ), will occur if humidity sensor is detected as being open continuously over 5 seconds.
F5 - ( shorted humidity sensor ), will occur if humidity sensor is detected as being shorted continuously over 5 seconds.
Note: It will will take a minimum of 15 seconds after the magnetron is energized before the F4 or F5 code will be displayed if the humidity sensor is shorted/open. Also the unit must be plugged into a 120 volt outlet for at least 5 minutes before sensor is checked, this also applies after the humidity sensor has been changed. Before checking operation of new sensor allow init to be plugged in for at least 5 minutes.
F6 - ( shorted temperature probe ), will occur if temperature probe is detected as being open or not plugged into the receptacle. If probe is plugged in and "ProbE" is on display, check probe for continuity with ohm meter.

they are all different for different brands... It is much easier to get a solution from FixYa you actually tell us what sort of equipment you are having trouble with. :) Do I get a FixYa rating now... :)

robotek
