Most likely it is your y-board. I was able to order it from Coretronic in Taiwan. Email
charlesliu@cds.coretronic.com . I had to wire 263.20 for the part and had it delivered in about a week. My TV repair shop installed and now the TV is working great.

It could also be the power supply. See this instructable for the solution:

Why does sound turn off.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot if there is no sound or intermittent sound from the speakers.
IMPORTANT: Not all of these features and/or functions are available on all products. Consult the instruction manual that came supplied with your unit to verify if your particular unit has these features, or if more detailed information is required to perform any of the steps below.
NOTES: Click on the appropriate link below if the issue is occurring with a particular device or connection.
  1. Make sure the MUTE function has not been activated.
  2. Try turning up the volume level.
  3. Check that there are no headphones connected.
  4. Try setting the Audio/Video (A/V) receiver to a different Surround Sound mode.IMPORTANT: Verify that the source you are playing is encoded with Surround Sound audio. If not, the audio will be very difficult to hear using a Surround Sound setting. Set Surround Sound to OFF when playing a source that is not encoded with a Surround Sound signal.
  5. Check each speaker to make sure they are properly connected to the A/V receiver.
  6. Perform a Test Tone function to verify if the speakers are working correctly.
  7. Verify all external audio sources are securely connected to the appropriate inputs on the A/V receiver. NOTE: If the audio is being sent from a television to the A/V receiver, then it may be necessary to disable the internal speakers of the TV or set the audio output of the TV to FIXED or VARIABLE. If the audio output of the TV is set to VARIABLE, then you will need to increase the volume level of the TV.
  8. Make sure the correct audio input is selected on the A/V receiver.
  9. Confirm what type of HDMI® devices are connected to the A/V receiver and then check the following:

    1. Test each one of the HDMI inputs on the A/V receiver to confirm that all of the inputs for the A/V receiver are working.
    2. Try a couple of different HDMI cables to verify there is not a bad set of cables.
    3. Unplug the video source from the A/V receiver and connect the source directly to the television. If there is still a problem with the audio, continue to the next step. If connecting the source to the TV corrects the sound issue, service will be needed on the A/V receiver. NOTE: Additional troubleshooting steps are available to troubleshoot instances when the audio, video, or both goes out when using an HDMI connection.
  10. Verify the DEMO (demonstration) mode is not active.
  11. Change the ATT (attenuate) setting. NOTE: The procedure to change the ATT feature varies by model.
  12. Reset the A/V receiver back to factory specifications.
The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required.

TCL television-sound is gone!! Hi, kids were in the middle of watching a movie and sound stopped.. Turned off and on, checked all plugs, tried all channels..still no sound :( does anyone know what may fix...

Check whether the "Mute function" is activated or not. If activated, de-activate it. As you know, if it is activated, there will be no audio output to any input feed to TV. Get into its menu and check this first.
If it is not activated, feed the TV by external Ariel input. and check whether any of the channels that receives have sound output. If yes, check the system settings. If your TV is a multi-system one [ie PAL/SECAM/NTSC etc:]; if the system have changed there will be no sound, as well as the picture too will be dull. It will be best to make this adjustment to AUTO; as it will make the set to determine the system of signal it receives, and will change to it automatically.
If all these are OK, and still there is no sound, something bad have happened. If so:
Check the speaker/s first. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience.

Hdtv screen turns on but is black

Chances are its the Inverter. However since the audio doesnt work either its also possible that the main board could be the cause. As in most cases audio will still work when an inverter fails. so its about a 50% for each board when the audio doesnt work either. You can get some free assistance yo help troubleshoot which board is at fault from www.tvcircuitboards.com they should also have replacement boards for your model.

Let verify first to narrow down to where the problem can be. First, make sure the MUTE or SAP function is not activated, then check the on screen sound set up menu to make sure the speakers are not set to OFF. If the setting is OK, then attach the powered PC speakers to the Audio Line out RCA jacks (Red and White) to see if you can get the sound there, if you do, then the problem can be in the power amp circuits, if you do not get the sound at RCA jacks, then the problem can be in the sound processor circuit. Please post back what you find.
