SOURCE: cannot adjust the tension on

I have the same problem with a schwinn 202 that someone gave to me because the resistance adjustment no longer worked. They were advised by Schwinn that the motor needed replacement, but after testing mine, the problem seems to be a lack of power from the computer to the motor. Schwinn tech support will get a call from me tomorrow.

SOURCE: Schwinn Sidwinder gears need adjusting.

Keeping a derailleur in a given gear is the shifter's job. If the shift lever/mechanism doesn't click and stay where you place it, something is wrong internally. It will need to be replaced if, for example, a SRAM MRX grip slid away and let the guts fall out.

Whatever your particular dilemma, look for a friendly local bicycle shop to see what they can do for you. I replaced the entire MRX shifter set for a friend using an upgraded and better designed Shimano setup for under $25 and my own labor. But then, I'm an old hand at working on bikes.

My gears are slipping. how can i adjust them? the problem seems to be more in the 5th, 6th and 7th gear. this is a schwinn ranger mountain bike 2.6. it actully just started giving me a problem.

Sounds like your cable has stretched a bit and now the tension is off. There is a barrel adjuster where the cable comes into the rear derailleur. Turning this barrel too the right will increase the slack and turning it too the left will take up some slack.

Shift your gears to the middle of the cassette, then try turning the barrel 1/4 turn to the left, shift and see if it shifts into gear, if not shift back and adjust the tension again. Keep repeating till the gears line up.

if this does not work then it's time to take into a bike shop.

My son has a 26"

The disc brakes may seem like a new a completely different technology, but really they adjust basically the same as rim brakes. Both of your problems sound like the cables have too much slack in them. There is a mounting bolt for the cables at the brake, loosen that, pull the cable taught, tighten the bolt and squeeze the levers again. If that is better and the brakes don't drag, there you go.

If it still doesn't fix the brakes, then it is time to consider taking the bike into a bike shop and letting the mechanic have a look.

Schwinn SRB 1500 no resistance when peddling

just make sure that all the nuts and bolts are tight otherwise replace the cord which might have lost its strength and may have become elastic.
