Defrost timers 8141-00

Hello, I am having problems setting up timers schedule but not sure of it operations

I programmed it to run daily from 8-8:02 am ,12-12:02pm & 4-4:02 pm. Unfortunately I have gone out to check on it 3 times in a row and found it running off schedule. Wed at about 4:30am,then Wed night at 8:30pm it had been running long enough to waist about 20 gallons and tonight some time between 11pm and midnight it started again and emptied 50 gallons. There are no timers scheduled after the 4:02 pm shut off. I notice there is a letter A on the left side bottom edge of screen and the on off beside the A keep fluttering on and off and then the timer trips on again off schedule. After going through the 10 possible timer setting options the screen has a C off 00:00 but instructions don't mention that screen or the A on the left side of the screen. The instructions do not cover trouble shooting the device and I can't start feeding the plants with the hydroponic feeding solution until I can get this blasted timer to work properly. I have tried to reset it and reprogram it but this has failed to resolve the problem 4 times so far.

Defroster timer

Hello there,
Defrost timer is what is set automatically by the defrost unit consisting of the defrost thermostat, defrost heater and the defrost timer. It is the timer that sets the routine timing of self defrost in the refrigerator.
If the defrost timer goes bad, it will stop the defrosting cycle of the refrigerator.
HERE ARE SOME TIPS ON HOW TO TEST AND REPLACE YOUR DEFROST TIMER. http://www1.fixya.com/support/r10523722-test_defrost_timer http://www1.fixya.com/support/r10523742-replace_defrost_timer
Hope this helped. All the best Elect_Comp

Hey im having a problem, basically all im trying to do it make it so my heat lamp turns on only at night, so, i set my time to the correct time right now and then i pressed prg, set the days (everyday)...

http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Zilla-digital-manual.pdf
1) There is no repair for defective timer.
According to manual, under Initial Timer Operation: yellow outlet is ON at 4:00 pm.
Make sure Mode button is not set to OFF.

2) Scheduling timer: Think about the zilla timer this way:
Day is 12 hours and night is 12 hours.
Your total schedule is only 9 hours, but it overlaps day and night.

If timer 'night' starts at 6pm and ends at 6am, then your programming overlaps day and night.
If timer 'night' starts at 12midnight and ends at 12noon, then your programming still overlaps day and night.

3) To solve zilla time problem, set current time differently.
4) Or buy GE or Utilitec 24-hour programmable power strip

Take a moment and vote on answer:
And take advantage of fixya expert assistance live.
For a price, expert works with you while you work on timer or any do-it-yourself project.

Do I set the GE timer # 15089 to Auto on or Auto off for it to be activated. I had it on Auto on however the light stayed on all the time.

I don't have repair for defective timer.
Open following link to identify timer and download manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15089

Timer should be set to Auto ON for timer programs to run.
Auto OFF is temporary override, and timer resumes schedule at next set point.
ON is always ON
OFF is always OFF

If timer is not operating as expected:
Test outlet for correct polarity and electrical problems using cheap circuit analyzer from hardware store.
Timer programs can have conflicts. Make schedule before setting timer so there are no overlaps that cause timer not to function as expected.
Current time has not been set. Set current time including current day.
Set button has been accidentally pushed, and a number or CTD appear in display.
Timer needs to be reset to clear conflicting programming or error. Push reset button with paperclip and try programming again.
Timer is not able to handle intended load. All timers work for incandescent bulb. Connect timer to incandescent lamp and see if problem continues.
Timer is defective. Buy another timer from Home Depot and return defect in new package.

Can i use the timer for a water headter to trun on and off

Paragon 8145-20 is a 240V defrost timer
It is probably not best choice for water heater timer
Timer initiates defrost cycles each 4 hours.

A water heater timer should have more scheduling options.
-For example estimates show average run-time for water heater is 3 hours per day, depending on incoming water temperature, thermostat setting, and number of gallons used.
-To save money using water heater timer, you have to schedule times carefully so water heater runs less than 3 hours per day.
-Now your average electric water heater heats about 20 gallons per hour.
-Average shower uses 4-9 gallons hot water, so water heater needs to run 15-30 minutes (15 summer, 30 winter)
-Average bath uses 12-15 gallons hot water so water heater runs 45-60 minutes
-But lets say you run water heater for 1 hour and make 20 gallons of hot water. Then you take a shower, expecting hot water to remain in tank.
-Here's the problem ... cold water entered the tank to replace the shower water ... and the new cold water is cooling the rest of the tank.
-So a timer means scheduling hot water to match shower and bath events. For example taking shower and bath in immediate succession.
-Or set the timer for each individual hot water event ... for example set timer for 1/2 hour for shower, and later timer turns on 1 hour for bath, or 1-1/2 hr for 2 baths, etc
-> The flexible programming described above is not a characteristic of defrost timers.
I suggest Intermatic WH-31 240V or Intermatic T-104 240V or GE 15207. These are mechanical repeat-24 hour timers with manual override where each day has same schedule.
Digital programmable timers like Intermatic EH40 offer 7-day, 40 event programming. Weekends and weekdays can be different.

Ice and frost on coils inside freezer

Possible that the auto defrost timer is faulty and is not working to the scheduled timing causing the frost to build up and block the coils in the freezer.
You will need to check this timer at the rear bottom of the fridge , check if thee timer clicks on or else replace,
Make sure that the thermostat is also working and shut the compressor when the thermostat is set low.

Freezer blowing cool air, but not freezing.

Hello there:
first make sure that the back of the unit is clear of any dirt or obstructions
also make sure that the food is not stacked up so high that the air cannot circulate also you may want to check the temperature setting if the unit does not respond to a lower setting your refrigerant level may be low or than you will have to have the temperature controle thermistor serviced or replaced

How to set the defrost timer on a KitchenAid Side-by-side frig?

It doesn't and shouldn't matter as all fridges with a mechanical defrost timer will run through a complete refridgeration and defrost cycle according to the manufacturer's factory design.

It doesn't have to correlate to your local time, since all defrost cycles for self-defrosting units operate based on the manufacturer's specs for how often the unit needs to go into a defrost cycle to prevent ice build up in the freezer.

Your fridge will adjust properly, once it gets cold enough and begins the specified operation and pre-determined cooling and defrost cycling.

Kenmore refrigerator i have replaced the defrost timer, the defrost heating unit and i still am icing over, could the problem be the defrost therostat

Make sure you have the timer is set for the right "polarity ". Accumalitive or continous . If set correctly , then the bimetal has to be the problem . Only 3 parts to defrost ....bimetal , heater,,,and timer .

Coils freeze up,refridgerator and freezer stops working

The defrost cycle is not working properly, there are three things involved in system. #1 Defrost timer in refrigerator #2 Thermostat on coils to tell if unit is frozen #3 heater element located under coils thaws coils when frozen. the defrost timer if it is manual < located at the front of light assembly panel in top of refrigerator there will be a hole with a plastic piece that resembles a screw strait screw head> it turns and every 8hrs aprox. it stops operations and starts defrost cycle by allowing voltage to the thermostat and if thermostat is frozen it allows power to element for thawing coils. If defrost timer is manual look for direction it is facing and mark edge to see if timer is turning< very slow turning and is easiest way> if you can get an ohm meter ohm the element on high setting< if it has continuity element is operable> check wiring just to be sure not problem. If you find the timer does turn and doesn't stay in one position over 40 minutes then the thermostat is bad.If element fails tesing then the element is bad and if timer stays in one position then it is bad. If unit is equiped with electronic defrost timer and element is good in would replace timer and thermostat to guaranty that resolved problem
