SOURCE: HOW DO I REMOVE THE OUTER TUB PLASTIC LINER ON A

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer with detailed diagrams of all the components.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.24642300

Then see the following for how to remove the cabinet and agitators.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

In order to get the agitators out, you need to remove the "Spanner Nut" and "Drive Block".

Many instructions call for a special spanner wrench to remove the nut. However,

You don't need a special spanner wrench. (About $20 retail)

I've used a short 10" pipe wrench (About $9 also good for cracking walnuts) hooked around one of the tabs on the spanner nut and tapped the handle with a hammer to loosen it.

Also, don't directly hit the drive block with a hammer (it's soft metal). Put a short piece of wood under the drive block and tap it up with a hammer.

It's probably easier to get to the bearings and seal at the base of the tub after pulling the pump, motor and gearcase. A close look at the sears diagrams should give you a good idea of how to do it.

SOURCE: I have a Kenmore Series 70 top loading wash

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

The numbers following the 110 (which means it's made by Whirlpool) are usually 8 digits. Using the number that you provided, I couldn't find your washer on the Sears site. You will want to verify the number (usually by lifting the lid) and/or check for manuals / parts site from the following Sears site:

http://www.managemyhome.com/

Sears has replacement tubs (at least for my 12 year old top load for about $116.75 (U.S.) but you may be able to get one from Whirlpool for about the same cost. If you can get to the diagrams on the sears site. they often have "Manufacturer Authorized Substitutes) which are Whirlpool numbers.

FOR EXAMPLE, SEE THE SITE FOR OUR WASHER AND YOU'LL SEE EXAMPLES OF PARTS, DIAGRAMS AND COSTS.

Spin cycle problem

I suspect you definitely have a clutch problem. It might be the liner or it could be the transmission seal leaked some oil into the clutch you would know it by the oil on the cabinet74eb356.jpgThats a hint of a clutch problem with leaky top seal. An easy fix.ef45d86.jpgthe newer washer have a square recess you unscrew and lift the top of the agitator off and then you have access to the bolt that holds the lower portion on. The agitator has to come out first then drop the tranny
(3 bolts) Put the tranny on a bench. You can use a pair of pliers and squeeze the spring and the clutch liner comes right out. You can buy just the liner, no need to buy the kit but you can do that too. None of the parts are expensive and anybody can do these repairs.

Leaking around center spindle gasket of outer plastic basket

There was a hole in the plastic liner tub from the inner metal basket rubbing on it during the spin cycle. I got some plastic cement and put it in there and it willl hold for a little while while anyway. Not a very well designed washer when you look into the guts of the monster.
