Hello first of all can you check your output power from the radio using a swr/power mtr it should read 4watts am and maybe 12watts ssb have you checked your antenna is properly matched using the swr mtr if you answered no to both these questions this could be where the problem is goodluck with it

I have a Connex 4600 Turbo mounted in the headliner of a W900L Kenworth using Wilson 2000 twin antennas and a RK56 mic. When trying to use the "talk-back" feature all I hear is constant...

Strange. You shouldn't have a squealing problem with an RK56 noise canceling mic.

Unfortunately there is no way to change the volume of the talkback. Its too loud. The only solution is to turn the mic gain down.

The only reason you need to have talkback on is to check your audio. Make sure the echo is good and what not. After that you really don't need it on. So turn down the mic gain, then check the echo, then turn off the Talkback and turn the gain back up.

The squeal is feedback from the talkback being to loud and being heard by the mic. So the only way to solve it is to lower the volume of the talkback, (Which is not possible in this radio) lowering the mic gain(which lowers your audio level) or turning it off.

There is a whine in the radio when I transmit but I can receive without hearing any whine.

Do you have talkback installed? If you do, it is too loud and this is what is causing the squeal. Try turning down the dynamic.

I have a dx98vhp and it sqeels* when i key up when the talkback is on. I've tried adjusting the power and i can't figure it out. Thanks

the talkback is too loud. there is no way to adjust the talkback volume on this radio. Talkback is really just so you can check how your audio sounds and your echo. Once it set, there is really no need to have it on.

Turning down the gain on your mic will stop the squeal.

the squeal is cause by feed back from audio from the talk back being heard from the mic.

Added talkbalk and I can barely hear it

The not-so-great swami of CB's predicts that if you increase the talk-back on that fine upd858 chassis, you're aking for trouble in the form of squealing. Particularly if you use one of them eye-legal leenyer power amplificators.

WANT TO ADD TALKBACK IN A RADIO

A 200 ohm 1-watt resistor across pins 1 & 4 of the mic jack will make some talkback. More or less resistance will make less or more talkback. Note the association of less and more.

Galaxy dx-66 squeals on talkback

timspur, hi. First off, using the talkback with a tuned Galaxy will give you problems, so you need to use a good noise cancelling mic like a RK 56, or Astatic 636. If your running an amp, that will only amplify the problem. Here is a mod if your comfortable working on your radio, to tone down the TB volume.
******
Talkback can become distorted if these radios have been "peaked," and there is no cure because the talkback just amplifies what goes to the RF section. Try adding a 470k ohm resistor from junction of C155/R207 to the junction of C187/R235 on the solder side of the board. This will also give you clean talkback on SSB and FM. Try different values of resistance to get the amount of volume you want. The less the resistance the louder the talkback will be.**
Hope this was what your looking for,, I know for a fact that the Astatic mics do help tone it down.

Talkback on a cobra 200 gtl dx

This procedure is not as simple as just cutting a wire. Note that you can possibly mess your radio up if any maintenace is not done properly. I do suggest taking your radio to a proffesional to have the talkback removed, but, if you really want to do it yourself, go to ghe following link and basically reverse what has been done.

http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/cobra/150gtl_dx/tsb/cobra_200gtl_dx_tsb_10041.pdf

This is the service bulletin for the addition of talkback to the Cobra 150GTL DX and the Cobra 200GTL DX.

As long as the talkback was added correctly, this can be put back origional.

If this does or does not help, please reply on here or email me at rollincbmods@yahoo.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
