Question about Computers & Internet
Won't shut down or restart properly - it just goes to screensaver and i have to push the power button on the side to shut it off. It also no longer recognized my western digital my book external hard drive. I tried unplugging everything. I tried a "Safe Boot" holding the shift key - it did not boot up, it just stopped and the screen went black.
1. Press the power key and immediately press and hold shift-option-p-r until you hear a second startup ****. (This resets the parameter RAM).
2. Press the power key and immediately press and hold command-S. The screen should go black and show a verbose listing of the boot process in white type. When it stops, you will see a flashing cursor at the end. Type the following: fsck -f, then return. This will start a check of the file system, and the fsck program will attempt to repair any errors found. Wait until the program displays the results (it can take a while if you have many files). Post your results here. If it finds errors and corrects them, your problem may be solved.
3. (Don't do this unless the file system comes up OK and you are still having problems.) With the computer off, press and hold Shift-Cntrl-Option+Power for 5 seconds, then press the power key. This should reset the power management unit.

to mount somthing in a mac is basicly cutting it on for use.
For example if you instal a flash drive or an hard drive via an out side connection, The mac will mount it so you can use it.

It can not find the hard drive or the startup folder on the hard drive. Try and fix that by putting in the original boot cd/dvd and repair and choose your hard drive start up folde as boot device. If you can not your hard drive may have died.
