Hi, I have an Acer laptop around 3 years old. The top cover of the laptop has fractured above the hinges, how do i replace the cover ?

The hinge is too tight causing metal fatigue of the bracket holding the screen. This seem to be a manufacturing defact. I rarely open/close the lid. The vibration of the screen caused the metal bracket to crack.

I replace the screen on my gateaway mt 6916 and cant install the video controler driver

Instructions

1

Prepare the laptop for disassembly. Shut down the laptop completely, then wait a few minutes before removing the battery and unplugging the AC adapter. Turn the laptop over and lay it down on a flat surface so that the battery area is facing away from you and the hard drive is located at the bottom left corner.
2

Remove the hard drive cover. Remove the two screws located on the left side of the hard drive cover, then lift the cover to remove it completely from the unit.
3

Remove the memory cover. Unscrew the eight screws holding the memory board in place; this cover is located above the Gateway product sticker.
4

Disconnect the Wi-Fi adaptor. Remove the Wi-Fi cover by unscrewing the single screw holding the Wi-Fi adapter in place; this is located directly above the hard drive. Remove the two cables connecting the wireless card to the adapter and snap the card out of the holder.
5

Remove the memory modules. Gateway computers typically have two memory modules located in the center of the motherboard; lift these out gently with your fingers and set them aside.
6

Release the heat sink. Unscrew the four screws around the heat sink assembly; this unit is located to the left of the ventilation fan and is surrounded by a copper base. Carefully lift the heat sink and the cooling fan off the unit and unplug the cable attaching it.
7

Remove the CD/DVD drive. Unscrew the small screw located to the left of the CD/DVD drive, then push the drive out to remove it from the laptop completely.
8

Remove all screws around the base of the laptop. You will now be left with a total of 18 screws located around the edge of the base of the laptop, and in between the stickers and hardware components in the center. Remove all of these carefully and set aside in a safe place.
9

Prepare the cover for removal. Turn the laptop up on its edge so that the back of the laptop is facing you; you will see two screws on the hinges of the computer. Unscrew these and set them aside.
10

Remove the hinge cover. Open the laptop so that the screen is laying flat; use the flathead screwdriver to pry open the hinge cover and pull it off gently with your fingers.
11

Remove the keyboard. Lift up the keyboard and reach behind it to release the cable. You will need to tug gently on the cable to unhook it from the motherboard.
12

Unhook the LCD screen from the notebook. Unplug the Wi-Fi antenna cables located on the right side of the motherboard directly under the screen, then unplug the video cable located directly under the hinge cover. Remove the pair of screws located to the left and right of the LCD screen and gently lift the LCD screen off the notebook's base unit.
13

Remove the system board. Turn the base unit over and unscrew the five screws securing the motherboard to the base. Two of these are located near the hinge cover, and two are located beneath and to the right of the hard drive unit. The fifth is located a few inches below the top right edge of the laptop.
14

Disconnect the motherboard. Lift the system board, then unhook the cable connecting it to the base unit.

Acer power button jammed

it seems to be a typical box PC, so I would try removing the side panel then look for some snaps on the front, and unsnap the front plastic bezel from the unit. (one side snaps, the other side is tabbed in with some plastic hinges that will just open as you pull the snaps back). once the plastic is off you should have access to the plastics inside the face panel.

Need to install memory on a veriton Z290G desktop but dont know how to open the computer

1 Turn off your computer and all the peripherals connected to it before
opening it. Then unplug all cables from the power outlets.

2 Place your computer on a flat, steady surface. If your computer is in the

vertical position, rotate the plastic stabilizers and lay your computer on its

side.

3 Turn the screws counterclockwise to release the cover.

4 Hold the sides of the cover with both hands.
5 Slide it back about an inch and then gently lift it upward to detach it.

6 Remove the side panel.

7 Locate the memory DIMM socket on the mainboard.

8 Press the holding clips on both sides of the memory DIMM socket outward

to release the memory DIMM (a). Gently pull the memory DIMM out of the
socket (b).

9 Align the memory DIMM with the socket. Press the memory DIMM into
the socket until the clips lock onto the memory DIMM.

The memory DIMM sockets are slotted to ensure proper

installation. If you insert a memory DIMM but it does not fit easily

into the socket, turn the memory DIMM around and try to insert it
again.

10 Align the cover's hinges to the housing frame; then gently push it in to

slide it back into place.
11 Secure the cover with the screws.

How do I take out the screen on my HP G71 -329WM laptop

I have a HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop and have replaced both the screen and the hinges, plus a few friends laptop screens all the same way. First remove the battery and unplug the laptop. To replace the screen you will need to to remove the hard drive and remove all the screws form the underside of the laptop to allow access to the underside of the keyboard as the connectors for the screen are under the bezel above the keyboard. Opening the lid all the way will make it easier to get under the keyboard t and bezel then disconnect the power, video signal, and wifi connectors. Might be 1 or 2 or 3 separate connectors. Carefully removed the rubber plugs from the front of the screen and stored them so you didn't loose them. Using a small screwdriver, remove the screws under the plugs. Using a flat screwdriver or small thin blade, carefully separate the bezel around the outside of the screen, it may be glued together so take care not to crack the plastic. At this point would can see the screen screwed in to the hinges and the back of the lid and what screws need to be removed. The wifi antenna is usually attached to both the screen and the lid via tape so take care when removing the screen. Place the new screen back and attach the hinges and connectors, making sure to place the wifi antenna back where it was located properly. At this point I plug in the laptop and verify the HP logo or POST screen appears whe I turn it on, showing that the connections are ok before unplugging and continuing to replace the remaining screws, hard drive and finally battery. Depending on how the bezel around the screen is attached, you might want to use double stick tape as the glue no longer holds the front and back together around the screen. Depending on how mechanical you are, figure between 30 and 60 minutes to replace the screen the first time.

Looking for support or a user manual

those sneaky little buggers hid it under the keyboard. It sounds nasty, but just take your time and it isn't bad at all. Open you laptop screen all the way open. the area just above the keyboard it where to start. It will require a small straight slot screwdriver to GENTLY pry off the plastic switch cover. and too you will need a pretty small phillips screwdriver. find the starting slot, about a quarter of a inch wide insert the ss screwdriver and pry it up. gently work your way around it, and too you notice it covers the hinges also. now you will see three screws at the top of the keyboard itself once they are removed with the ss sdrver slightly pry the keyboard to the left just enough to release it . Now you should be able to see and install the memory into the slot with out disconnecting the keyboard, but if you have to just gently pull on the fabric tab and it will just unplug.
Put you memory in and reinstall the keyboard (be sure the little tabs around the keyboard are underneat the shroud around it.
It is not as bad as it sounds it should take you two minutes. I just tried to give you enough info that you don't make the mistake that I did when I first figured it out.
good luck please leave rating, thank you kindly

How to remove keyboard

These are the steps you need to take to Remove the Keyboard for D631 Dell.:
  1. Remove the hinge cover.NOTICE: The hinge cover is fragile and can be damaged if extreme force is used. Be careful when removing the hinge cover.
  2. Open the display all the way (180 degrees) so that the display rests flat on your work surface.
NOTICE: To avoid damaging the hinge cover, do not lift the cover on both sides simultaneously. Removing the hinge cover in a different way than described may cause the plastic to break.

NOTICE: The keycaps on the keyboard are fragile, easily dislodged, and time-consuming to replace. Be careful when removing and handling the keyboard.

3. Remove the three screws at the top of the keyboard.

NOTE: Lift the keyboard carefully to ensure that you do not pull on the keyboard cable.

4. Ease the edges of the keyboard out of the small detents on the sides, then slide the keyboard slightly forward to free the keyboard tabs from the palm rest.

5. Rotate the top of the keyboard forward and away from the display, and lay it upside-down on the palm rest to gain access to the keyboard connector.

6. If the keyboard cable is held in place by a locking arm next to the keyboard connector, carefully spread the retaining bracket away from the connector so that you can pivot the locking arm upward to release the cable.

7. Pull up on the pull tab to disconnect the keyboard cable connector from the keyboard connector on the system board.

I just wanna know how to replace an acer laptop hard drive with a bigger one

Usually you

1) purchase the new hard drive
2) look around the base of your laptop to find where the HDD is, if you look at the manual which im sure acer will have on its site it will show you
3) usually 1 or 2 screws are unscrewed and you slide out the hard drive, it will be in a special holder
4) unscrew the old hard drive and insert the new one and secure it in place like the old one.
5) insert, re-do screws up, turn on laptop.

this new hard drive wont have any information on it so you will need to reinstall windows on that drive.

Is it straightforward to tighten the hinges on my samsung nv5000 laptop? The lcd won't stand up on its own any more! Many thanks, Rob

Should be, just need to be careful when removing the cover..

The notebook is quite old so you may find the plastic or metal has just worn and the hinges need replacing.

2 options:
1. Buy new replacement hinges.
2. Insert spacers in the hinges.
