Question about Brother DCP 115C All-In-One InkJet Printer
There are signals called 'interrupts' that tell
your system that something wants to talk to it and the Brother installation is
probably trying to use one of these already in use by another device.
Since the installation is not finishing, there may be no signs of this problem which is called a 'conflict.'
You can check though to see if there are signs of the conflict by opening the Control Panel, then the System folder, then click on Hardware, then Device Manager.
If the port (input) that the printer wants to use is already in use or not working right, the problem area will be shown with a red 'X'.
If you don't find a functioned marked with the 'X,' your printer may have a problem.
If this is true, then make sure your printer is connected and turned on, then restart your system.
If the installation hasn't gone too far, Windows should 'find' the printer, alling it a 'New Device' and if it has some information on the printer in its library of drivers (a small bit of software that tells the PC how to talk to it), it will try to install it.
If it doesn't find a driver that seems OK, it will ask you if you have a CD for the printer or even look for a driver on its own.
If it still doesn't find a driver on a CD, it will ask you where else to look.
You will have to know the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive (could be D:, E: or other) and tell it to Windows.
If it still doesn't find a driver (it happens), the next step would be to go to the Brother website and download a more recent driver and/or the entire installation software.
This happens fairly often since MicroSoft is continually changing their operating system to fix problems of their own making and this sometimes makes software from other companies crash.
You will have to tell Brother which operating system & version you are using (some sites can find this on their own) and maybe which language you want to use.
If all of this doesn't work, you may need a friend to help you while in front of your system so they can see what is happening as it happens.
