The router is Microsoft, Wired Base Station, Model MN100.

Not sure what you mean by "CAT" leads. The cable modem is connected to the router and the router is connected to the computer. Are you saying that I don't need software if it's hooked up this way? Thanks in advance.

Hello Strunnell,

What is the make of the Router???

Also, if your dads computer is using CAT leads to connect to the internet you dont need to install any software for the router...

Let me know.

    Hello again,

Sorry for the delay, but I have been ill....

Yes that sounds like your connecting with CAT leads so you do NOT need any software to connect.

However, you may need software to let your modem (or router) connect to the internet.

    Let me explain:

On most routers you can "log in" to them....you sometimes type in the address of the router like 196,149,1,1 or something like that (it WILL tell you in the routers instruction book that came with it).

once your in to the router you can change all your connection settings, like password, protocol, VPI, VCI etc etc etc....

now your set up may not use that way of connecting, and if so you will have to add the router to the microsoft internet connections found in your control panel of windows.

however, what i would do to start with is to uninstall any software that you have put on the computer to do with your set up and simply switch off the computer and un plug the router.

the power on and when you get back to windows just plug the router back in.

It should auto detect it and then...after 10 secs or so... click on your browser and you should be ok to surf the net.

    IF THAT DOES NOT WORK......

The your will have to install the drivers for the router again.

    Let me know what happens.

Yes, this product is compatible with Windows 7.
To note, if you are upgrading to Windows 7 from either Windows Vista or Windows XP check before installing that your Wired/Wireless equipment on your computer will have compatible drivers for Windows 7.

Caanot establish connection from MN-500 to internet

I don't think it's your router or your computers. If you just replaced your modem it has to be the problem. If it is a DSl Modem you have to imput you account username and password. If it's a cable modem you have to call the cable company and tell them you have a new modem. Which every it is you need to contact your Internet service provider, they are the ones who can help you.

Reconnecting Wired Base Station MN-100

Yes, that is possible. Since you have changed providers, you have to reconfigure the router depending on your new provider.

You can try these steps:

1. Turn off the the router, modem and the computer.
2. Wait for 30 seconds then turn on the modem and make sure that all (if not most) lights are stabilize
3. When the lights are stabilized, turn on the router and wait for the lights to stabilize.
4. When both the router and the modem are stabilized, you can turn on the computer and check for the connection.

If it still does not work, you may need to configure the router based on the settings needed by the service provider that you have. If you wish, inform me of the name of your service provider and I will give you the specific settings on how to configure your router.

Wireless hub

No, you do not have to have the broadband software installed. To access the MS base station go to : http://192.168.2.1/login.htm Using it as a hub and access point requires you to configure is as such. The MN700 can act as a hub/wireless access point using an ethernet cable from your router to the modem port on the base station. The base station has to be setup with the ethernet cable in port 1 on the base station connected to your PC. see "Reconfigure the MN-500 as a Wireless Bridge" in this article. same steps apply for your MN700 http://www.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?thid=102065&prdid=254958 The last step is to reconnect the ethernet cable from the router to the modem port on the MN700.
