I have two Toyotas and both of their keys start flaking out in the 4 to 5 year time frame. One of the cars is a 2009 Scion xB. Changing the battery is something a user can do but there are a few things to be careful about. Before disassembling make sure you are not in an area that can generate static electricity otherwise you risk blowing out your remote circuit. Lay out a sheet of aluminum foil and do all your work on it so that everything is at the same voltage potential. 1) remove the key from any keychain. 2) Near the keychain side of the key is a tiny slot on the edge. If you put a small blade screwdriver in this slot and twist it will pop of the case cover of your key's remote electronics. 3) The electronics module is inside the key with it's own plastic housing which pops right out of the key shell. 4) Once you have the module out notice that one side is black plastic while the other side is clear plastic. There are five edges to the module and on one corner is a small clear plastic tab protruding up. To the right of the tab is a hard to see but small slot where you must insert a small screwdriver to gently separate the tab underneath. At the same time, pull upward on the protruding tab and the clear plastic shell with the electronics should start to come out. Once apart the battery is visible, a CR 2016 watch battery, available usually at Target, Wal-Mart or any electronics store for ~ $2. Install the new battery and reverse the procedure and you should be good to go.

Each door lock on each door though runs off a different motor. The motor may have gone bad but hard to believe on a car this new.

SOURCE: How do I install alt. belt on 2005 scion xb?

I just looked at my '04 xB. It looks very straight forward.
loosen the bolt that holds the alternator to the bracket.
carefully slide the alt to the bottom. (Also be aware of the plug and wires on the alt. They should never hold the weight of the alternator. You dont want them breaking prematurely.)
Pull the belt off, remove the belt from the crank shaft pulley.

Do the reverse, and you will have replaced the belt.

Make sure to check the belt in about a week or so.
New belts will stretch over time. Make sure you keep the tension tight enough to work correctly, but not so tight that the alernator shaft is warped.
I usually place the new belt on both pulleys and give a good "medium" pull on the alt while tightening. Find the middle of the belt and squeeze them together, depending on the type and length of the belt, there should be about 1/4" of flex on both sides.

I changed my car battery, now my 2008 Nissan Altima key fob won't work

There is a special procedure involved in keying your fob to your car once the battery has been changed. You must lock and open the door with your key. Turn the ignition to "on"(not start) then push the fob's open and close button, then shut off ignition. This procedure is done everything the key battery is changed. Hope this can help you!

My Porsche Key fob no longer unlocks the doors

Insert key into door barrel or ignition lock and turn key, whilst doing this press the unlock/lock button, the led on the dash should flash to indicate this has initialised the key to the car, then remove key and test operation of remote. If this fails then a new remote plus coding to the car by your dealership is needed
