you may have to open a port that you xbox can use to connect to xbox live
Connect only your Xbox and computer to the Internet.
Disconnect all other devices. This is done to easily determine the
Xbox's IP address, which is used in the Port Forwarding process.
Open the Windows Command Prompt from the Start Menu. Click "Start > Run...," then type in "cmd" and hit "OK."
Enter "ipconfig" n the command prompt. A list of IP addresses pop ups. Write down the IP address of your computer.
Open your router setup utility
through a web browser. Use the given directions from your router
manufacturer to do so. Generally, the configuration page is opened by
inputting the router IP address into the URL in the following format:
http://123.456.7.8/ (where the IP Address number is unique to the router
Open the "DCHP Client List"
section of the router setup utility. This lists the devices currently
connected to the Internet through the router, which is your computer and
Xbox. Write down your Xbox's IP address (in this case, the one that is
not your computer's IP address).
Navigate to the "Virtual
Servers" or "Port Forwarding" menu in your router setup utility. Most
manufacturers have a side menu on their router setup utility, which is
generally a section under your "Firewall" settings.
Input the following port numbers and your Xbox's IP address into your router's port forwarding configuration:
Placing these numbers in the port forwarding menu opens up the
required ports that your Xbox needs to connect to the Xbox LIVE network.
Save this configuration.
Start up Xbox LIVE to check your
connection. If you have no problem connecting, then you have
successfully forwarded the required ports.
You have to set up your xbox to a static IP Address, as well as you have to set up a DMZ inside of your router to the same existing IP Address. So you are going to have to access your router menu find out your information such as dns address, default gateway address, as well as your main ip address. Then go into your xbox and set it up the same but notice you will have to have your IP address for the Xbox to be different than the main IP for the router IE.. Router main IP Address 192.168.2.1 you will want your xbox IE 192.168.2.2 or something along those lines, however the default gateway and dns numbers need to be the same. Hope this helps
The IP Address is the number or ASCII character representing a Web, presence. Every connection to the internet needs a specific "Identifier" this is a unique number or characters used to describe the connection. A bit like a "Telephone Number".
All explained above.
Every device connected to the public internet is assigned a unique number known as an internet protocol (IP) address. IP addresses consist of four numbers separated by periods(also called a 'dotted-quad') and look something like 127.0.0.1
since these numbers are usually assigned to internet service providers with region based blocks, an IP address can often be used to identify the region or country from which a computer is connecting to the internet. an IP adress can sometimes be used to show the users general location because the numbers may be tedious to deal with, an IP adress may also be assigned to a host name, which is sometimes easier to remember hostnames may be looked up to find IP adresses, and vice-versa. at one time ISPs issued one IP adress to each user. These are called static IP addresses. beacuse there is a limited number of IP adresses and with increased usage of the internet ISPs now issue IP adresses in a dynamic fashion out of a pool of IP addresses (using DHCP). these are referred to as dynamic IP addresses. This also limits the ability of the user to host websites mail servers, ftp servers, etc. in addition to users connecting to the internet with virtual hosting,a single machine can act like multiple machines (with multiple domain names and IP addresses).
make sure that your xbox is acctually getting an ip address, by default it should be a 192.168.0.xx number and the gateway should be 192.168.0.254 If however your xbox tells you that its ip address is 168.xx.xx.xx (a private ip address) or if it is simply 0.0.0.0 it would sugest a cabling problem. However if the network troubleshooter finds no faults and you are still unable to get into xbox live try setting up a PPPoE connection using the username eircom and broadband1.
Alternatively,If you click on Firewall in the Netopia admin page, and set the security level to Low, xbox live would suddenly start to work.
******Also add UDP ports 88 and 3074 if nothing works. On a netopia 3347 you can get this option in the NAT option.U have to enter the port numbers and the service name(xbox).
Hope it works for you.
OK I think the easiest way to connect the xbox to the linksys, is if you configure your XBOX to have a static IP address, because the xbox will not have to pick an IP address every time you connect to the internet using the Linksys router and will not have conflicts with other PCs on your house, if you have any. What the linksys does is to convert your Public IP addres into a Private IP address, so example if your ISP gave you an IP address of: 220.127.116.11 that is your IP address for you, then the Linksys converts that number (NAT) into a private IP address so it can be share with many computer inside your house using a single Public IP address. The Linksys always transform it into 192.168.1.?=any number between 1-256 thats the defaults IP address from the manufacturer but you can change it if you want. Ok enough info about NAT or IP jeje.
Where going to use the default IP addres for an easier setup.
First: On your XBOX 360 dashboard go to SYSTEM, then Network Settings, then Edit Settings, then choose the option manual, here put the IP address= 192.168.1.33 (if 33 doesn't work use another numer like 20 or 45 just pick a number between 2 and 250) ; Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0 ; Gateway = 192.168.1.1; DNS options put Automatic. And see if it connects. If it doesn't work just post it here, any problem that you have.
Ok go to your computer, goto START/Control Panel/Network Connections. Then highlight your Local Area Connection and right click it. Click on properties and look for Internet Protocol, then click on the properties button below. See if your IP is set on manual or automatic. If it is manual it should have the IP address showing in the boxes. Write the number down and then put those numbers in the Network Settings on your Xbox 360 Dashboard. I hope this helps.
