Question about Canon MP610 Photo All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

Canon MP610 English driver req'd

I live in Japan and have just bought this printer, and of course I knew that everything would be in Japanese. I wondered however if I were to install the printer with an English driver (including MP Navigator) whether I would then be able to operate it in English - other than the printer screen itself of course.

Hi Ginko, Thank you so much for offering your advice so quickly - I'm gobsmacked! Anyway, I did as you suggested, but I had the same results as downloading from downloadtube. The download seems to work, but when it starts installing, the wizard messages are in Japanese, and when I try to use it, there is no change from the original ie all the menu boxes for Navigator are still in Japanese. If you have any other suggestions I would be delighted to hear them.

Thanks Ginko - I didn't mean to be negative! I will adjust my rating once my wife let's me back on the computer to try a few more things. Actually we have Vista Ultimate, so we can switch between languages on most of the software we use, but not this one. I'll try uninstalling everything and starting from scratch. Watch this space! Hi Ginko, well I have just had a go again. Uninstalled everything to do with the printer, and disconnected it. Downloaded everything we had before, but from the page you sent me - driver, MP Navigator, Solutions, Easy Photoprint EX - then reconnected the printer. Interestingly(?!) the download wizrds for the driver and MP Navigator were in Japanese. The driver instructions and printer installation progress reports were in English, as is Solutions and Photoprint EX, but the one I REALLY want (Murphy's Law) is still in Japanese! By the way, you might be interested to know that the MP610 as sold in Japan has no language options for its own screen - Japanese only - unlike the machine as sold in the US I believe. If you have any other suggestions, it would be great to hear from you.

Thanks Ginko, nah, I think I'll pass on shelling out for another printer. Incredibly all I really want to know is how to make one Adobe file to attach to an email if I have several pages to scan. Any request sent to Adobe gets re-routed to Adobe Japan and I get an automated response in Japanese. Might be easier if I just left the Land of the Rising Sun and dodgy lager... Cheers anyway.

Click here to open Canon download page for your printer.

Complete the select OS box, and follow instructions to download the driver software.

Yep, either you are starting the wrong file (eg. you keep starting your old download, or you are clicking in the wrong place), or there is a problem with your system, and windows must be fixed.

I just checked the file, and it is the standard English installer.

Here is direct link for XP only.

    Here is link for Vista.

Just click I agree, then download and install the file.

If you still get weird characters, then the problem is with your Windows.

If you live in Japan, you may have Japanese settings in Windows.

In this case , ask help from somebody that can read Japanes to install the file, after installing the software will work in English.

The only solution is to reinstall printer firmware, but there are a couple of problems.

First firmware is not always available, then even if it should work, there is always a risk that firmware for US model is not fully compatible with Japanese one. In this case you waste the printer.

If you really cannot live with it, then better buying an English printer on Ebay.

Change language from japanese to english on NEX-5N

You absolutely cannot select any other language on Japanese domestic SONY models. The professional line up of camcorders come with an English selection in the menu, but not the consumer models.
Suggestions by well intentioned but ill-informed people to follow the menu in the English user guide, will not get you anywhere. The Japanese models do not include this item in the menu. Plain and simple.
Visitors to Japan should be careful when purchasing items here as they more often than not only include Japanese manuals. SONY and Panasonic also only include English menus in their cameras. Canon and Nikon do have an English selection, but this should be confirmed at the point of purchase not after returning to your country!! Furthermore, warranties are usually only valid for Japan.
