How to adjust fuel air mix in Ryobi Lawn hornet

I have recently replaced old fuel lines. Now the engine will only run if I have Choke on. There are 2 adjustment screws on carburetor, I assume one is to adjust Fuel flow and the other Air mix. The question is which is which and How do i adjust them properly?

Hello sir,, now there are two types of carb.adjustment screw covers, the old one where there are plastic over the screws, simple remove the plastic covers with a pair of needle nose pliers or cutting off,,,second are the new ones that are above the adjustment screws, which you have to take your drummel tool with the cutting blade and cut slots in the screws, after you get this done it is important to count the number of rotations in until stops make note how many. because you are going to reset the same way.now remove the screws, put to the side when you get ready to put screws in put in all the way than back out as many turns that you noted, now that is factory set there should only be a small adjustment to do. the rule of thumb is turn both out 1 1/4 turn and adjust in until saw runs smooth and idles ok, it is hard to adjust the top speed when saw is running wide open, let saw idle when adjusting top speed is easier that way, when you go to cut wood you may have to readjust top speed, the above does apply some what if you are not using fresh gas mix and dumped out the old fuel and starting with fresh, and a new plug CJ8Y,and as you know the saw has to breath in and out by this i mean a clean air filter, make sure the small screen on the muffler is not cloged, this will keep saw from running at peak speed and sawing wood, ok i have ran across a few saws to where the small screen in the muffler is cloged so the saw would idle but not run at high rpm's,if you do and check all of the above your saw should run,oh btw check compression should be above 60 to 160 lbs, hope this helps, any comments welcome, please accept my solution, thank you. 00

SOURCE: Primer button Ryobi lawn hornet

Vacuum created by piston operation after closing the choke pulls fuel into carburetor port into engine. In much the same way as the primer bulb provides fuel for the port. These type engines usually take a few more pulls before they will start. And if there are any leaks in carb. system will be very hard to start.

no adjustments possible, use fresh gas/oil mix 40:1. Check carb primer bulb for cracks and fuel lines. Excess air can cause high rev and surging.

How do I fix a ryobi bp42 that will not start

It's a 2 stroke & it's relatively new. as long as you didn't score the piston by neglecting to add oil to the fuel mixture, the most likely problem is fuel issues. It only takes a month or 2 to have ethanol fuel absorb enough moisture to ruin the fuel mix. Return all carb settings to original settings. Empty your tank, get rid of your fuel, remix with NON-ETHANOL FUEL MIXED WITH A PREMIUM SYNTHETIC 2-STROKE OIL, such as echo or husquvarna. Purge all the fuel from your lines and primer. Remove the spark plug & pull the cord a few times to dry out the cylinder, run a flame under the spark plug to dry it out. Add 3 drops of fuel mix to the cylinder then replace the plug. Put it on full choke & pull 1 time. Then on 1/2 choke pull to start in 1 or 2 pulls. Still won't start; replace plug & air filter. Let it warm up for 5-10 seconds then turn choke off.

I have a Ryobi 780r that won't run unless it is on choke. The moment I remove the switch from choke to run it shuts off.

This means you have an air leak somewhere adding more air than fuel with the choke off. With the choke on it blocks off the fresh air coming in and mixes with the maverick air from the air leak. You need to find the leak and fix it or you may damage the unit

Fuel line for ryobi

hello sir, fuel line routing for ryobi, poulan trimmers, looking at machine from left side, front green line from tank to bottom of port on primmer bulb. rear line from tank which has filter inserted through tank with small white ring pushed up aginst tank & filter fittings, goes to port at bottom of carburetor.top line from primmer bulbgoes to top port of carburetor. that is the way thay go on.it is important to make sure you have the same fuel line I.D.3/32 and O.D.3/16 are very important! also if old line dissolved it will get in carb. and clog ports & small screen inside.clean inside of carb. with carb. cleaner & air pressure. to get your parts and numbers ,go to mtdparts.arinet.com, parts,791-683398,fuel line assembly, this is for most fuel line trimmers~~~hope this helps, don't forget the 4 thumbs up,any comments welcome, thank you. ``

Sounds like it has a fuel blockage. Three things to check are;Inspect the fuel-filter (inside the tank) for contaminants. Inspect fuel lines for cracks. Inspect carby for oil residue (blocking the jet). Hope this helps

Runs on choke a little

sounds like the carburetor has gummed up a bit, and may need adjustments - or, the fuel pickup in the tank has come loose [i.e.: deteriorated fuel lines] - also, make sure your gas mix is FRESH. if your gas mix is more than 2 months old, dump it
