One of the color projectors CRT's is burnt out or is malfunctioning, the cost to repair this is very expensive, in the $500 range. With the new Flat panel LCDs now at rock bottom prices (saw a 42" at Best Buy for $499) I would really suggest you scape the old technology instead of repairing it, it will likely develop another problem within a year or so.

SOURCE: I have a red band at topand a blue band at bottom

Your TV has a bad optical block. Mine has the same problem. Sony has extended the warranty on the optical block till 6-30-2010. I called Sony and they offered me a newer model 52 inch flat panel LCD for $450 and told me to keep the old TV. They will also pay to have your TV repaired if desired. Here is the email I recieved from Sony:

Dear Valued Sony Customer,

Models: KDF-42E2000, KDF-46E2000, KDF-50E2000, and KDF-55E2000
US Based Customers: KF-42E200A and KF-50E200A

As part of the Sony commitment to quality, Sony is announcing that it is extending the limited warranty (parts and labor), in the United States, on the optical block of the above-referenced 2006 model Micro-Display Rear Projection televisions until June 30, 2010, regardless of purchase date. For any customer who requires repair of the optical block on one of the affected models, Sony will cover the cost of the optical block repair (parts and labor) at no charge through June 30, 2010. This extended warranty does not apply to the replaceable projection lamp or the other parts that may be used in the televisions.

Sony is also announcing that for any owner of these model televisions who paid out-of-pocket expenses on or before February 28, 2009 for an estimate or repair service to replace the optical block, Sony will reimburse the customer by mail for the cost of the optical block and the labor expense to replace it, subject to certain conditions. To receive reimbursement, please follow completely the directions on the claim form; for reimbursement all claims must be postmarked by April 15, 2009. See the claim form for complete terms and conditions.

All other terms of the Sony limited warranty continue to apply. Sony utilizes a network of hundreds of qualified independent third-party servicers to perform in-home television warranty service. Sony, through its authorized servicer network, will endeavor to repair your set within 30 days of your first contact. For diagnosis, warranty service, or if you are not provided a repair within 30 days, please contact Sony at (888) 649-7669.

Sincerely,
Sony Electronics

Replacing the Optical Block will cure the problem. Due to the cost of the repair i would call Sony at 1800-222-SONY and see if they could assist you in the cost of repairs. You would need to get a Authorized Service Facility out to confirm the problem and give you a estimate to in turn give to Sony. The amount they they will pay for is of course up to them but it is better than paying the entire cost yourself.
Hope this helps,
Skyassoc

Sony BRAVIA KLV-37U300A 37 In LCD TV with shadow background on screen

That sounds like a defective LCD panel tab, Sony's and Samsungs are notorious for this problem. Does the problem go away when the set warms up or when you tap the screen?

The screen has a permenant green tinge which dominates all other colours. If watching football the grass insted of being bright grass colour green is more of a dull drab green

It could be the tint settings on your TV. Check your TV's settings menu for color/tint options. If you can't find it, break out the manual and look in the index for tint or color, then locate the page and it'll tell you how to get there.

Make sure the tint slider is in the middle, 0 or 50%, depending on your TV.

Best of luck.

Line thru screen

The LCD Panel must be replaced to fix both problems. The cost in doing this would exceed the value of the set. I recommend not putting the money into it.
