Question about Sony MDS-E10 Mini Disc Player
Worked fine until 3 gigs ago, then started to playback as if hiccuping(as if a hair or fluff was stuck on the lens). Turned unit off, then back on after a few minutes, and it worked fine. The next gig it was fine (back to normal), I had used a lens and head cleaner, thought this must have been the problem. Then last nights gig came along,it worked fine on playback for an hour, then started to break up on the sound again, I turned it off, then on again, this time it seems worse, wont go to normal playback, just intermittent playback, thanks.
It sounds like a hair in the disc cartridge or the loading cavity. I once drove myself nuts with the same situation only to find a vary fine hair bouncing around.
If you have the savvy to open it up, get a good light, an opta viser and look for a hair or dust. A can of dust off would be an asset. In my case it took several tries because I was not certain at that point what the problem was, but it was a hair. A cleaning disc is not enought to get it out in most cases.
I saved a $700 MD deck by getting the hair out....

Your service shop would need to purchase the service manual (if available). The problem here is that without seeing the unit, I can;t tell you whether the optics are bad or the tracking head is bad or the loading mechanism is defective. None of those options are cheap. Let me look into this a bit and see what I can find. I will try to get you part numbers at least with costs.
