Toshiba a25-s2792 No sound in windows 7

After running windows update and installing 99 updates the device manager shows the onboard audio is working properly but there is no sound. I turn volume all the way up with the mixer but still no sound.

Thanks for your efforts. I tried to do the Win7 install. Seems the laptop should have the power to run the OS. Toshiba says it will only recognized 1GB total RAM (2 x 512MB) but in fact will see up to 2GB. I think my problem was the physical volume control! The PC wasn't mine, my son declared it too slow to be useful and dropped it off for me to play with. Found it only had 256MB RAM! Found it ran much better after I threw in an extra 512MB stick I had. Also tested it to make sure it would see a 1GB stick. I din't even realize it had a physical volume control which, of course, was at the lowest setting. Color me red!

Yes,....good Ol' Windows updates. Known to knock a system partially out of commission.

Windows has lost the address to the Audio drivers. The reason it states Audio is working properly, is because Windows is full of it.

The Toshiba Satellite A25 series of Notebook PC's, did not come with Windows 7. It came with Windows XP. You, or someone else installed Windows 7.

The updates knocked the audio driver address file to the curb.
All you have to do, is install the Win7 installation disk again, and perform a Repair.
(Non-Destructive Installation)

OR, use the Restoration Disk, (Backup disk)

Toshiba eSupport does not provide audio drivers for Win Vista, or Win 7, for this model. Only Win XP,

{Do I think going to Device Manager, and rolling back the audio driver, or upgrading it, will help? NO }

To get information about driver requirement

Try running windows update, that should pick up any necessary drivers. They might be listed as optional updates so make sure you look at those.

Alternatively, click the start button, right-click on the 'my computer' icon and click 'manage'. When the management console opens click 'device manager' in the left hand pane and look in the main window for your audio device under 'sound video and game controllers'. Right click on it and select 'update driver software' and instruct windows to search online for drivers.

If those don't work I'd need to know which soundcard you have, or if it's onboard then which motherboard.

    Hope this helps,

    erch

YOU MAY HAVE ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE FN+F9,F10,F11 OR F12 KEYS SIMULTANEOUSLY. TRY HOLDING DOWN THE FN KEY (NEXT TO THE CTRL KEY) AND LOOK FOR THE SYMBOL UNDER YOUR F9, F10 ETC... KEYS AND THAT SHOULD SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.

    No sound driver found

Usually if its onboard sound or a sound card that came stock with your system Windows Update should be able to find it; go into device manager and uninstall your sound device…then reboot and allow Windows to find your sound device then allow Windows to search Windows Update for the driver (this might take a minute).
