If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wirelessconnection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptopprobably did not get an IP address from the wireless router. To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and thenclick Repair. This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless cardon the laptop.
Try updating wireless driver software. OR wireless driver for ur router might not installed while on LAN conn install them with UBUNTU SOFTWARE CENTER. Still nt works? check ur hardware for problems by experts.> ??? Try updating OS. OR installing another great open source OS with great hardware support.Follow the following link... www.opensuse.org/
To use a wireless network/connection you need to do.
1. Configure the router's wireless with SSID, WPA encryption etc.
2. Next configure the wireless card in the computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings so it can connect to the wireless router.
Please click on this link for my instructions on how to secure your wireless network, configure the wireless router and configure the wireless card in the computer/laptop :-
The T30 laptops do not have a on/off button that turns the wireless card on.
Once the wireless card driver is installed the wireless card will detect any wireless router and access point within its range. You need to configure the wireless card to connect into the wireless router or access point eg. the encryption, SSID etc.
The Thinkpad laptops have different wireless LAN cards installed, when you install a wireless card driver and it doesn't work, then install a different model wireless card driver. Also make sure the XP or Vista version of the wireless driver matches the Windows version that is installed on the laptop.
If not done allready, setup the lan IP address and default gateway in win98 Click MyComputer-ControlPanel-Network-Double Click TCP/IP Adapter for your 3com device-insert LAN info for IP Adress-subnet mask, Gateway and your Internet service providors DNS Addresses info Tab's (3x different Tabs "IP Adress" "Gateway" "DNS Configuration")
IP Adress will be at least one number higher than your gateway address and not allready being used by other PC's on your network and gateway address will same as your router interface address subnet mask will be the same for all PC's on your network.
For 3com and Netgear routers LAN setup is usually
Gateway = 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
IP Adress = 192.168.1.10(choose alternate number than 10 if allready used by another PC on your network, try to use round numbers, must be a number higher than 1)
Once all info is entered click OK (this may trigger a database info update message and task)now your LAN is setup and ready to talk to your network
Restart PC and try browsing again. May possibly require reinstallation of the TCP/IP client (you double clicked this to setup your LAN in Win98) or reinstallation of the IIS(Internet Information Services)component found in, Add/Remove Programs-Add/Remove windows components and then try LAN setup again if this does not work first time round
