Question about DeLonghi ESAM Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines
Can not clear general alarm. Brand new machine not a single cup of coffee made -bought a floor model EASM 5500 Perfecta and the store clerk packaged it up and put water spout in infuser so it got caught when the machine cycled. I have removed the back of the machine - with it UNPLUGGED-I moved the motor so as to cycle infuser to allow the stuck water spout to be removed; however, as far as I can determine the system seems no to cycle to allow a resetting of the gears to a known position. A schematic would help - I did jumper the one micro switch that is on the worm gear thinking at least I could get the motor to turn - but no luck - the General Alarm comes on before any motion, etc. Can anyone tell me how to reset the mechanical 'home' or a link to a schematic with function block diagram ?

Did you try tightening the 2 hex screws behind the infuser?
Be gentle though. Mine felt tightend but thenIput just a bit more pessue on them and got an eigth to a quarter more turn out of them. Found this solution on this site

Had this exact problem a few times on a cleaned well maintained milk jug top with an ESAM5500M. Delonghi 'repaired' it by sending a new milk jug frothing top.
It's caused by milk fat deposits, the frother part on the milk jug may look clean but deep inside it's not. I clean mine with pipe cleaners, detergent and hot water and still it wouldn't froth.
The problem re-occurs for me every 6 months or so. You could buy the milk fat remover solution to clean it. Personally I just boil the whole milk jug frother in detergent and the again in descaling solution, that's fixed this problem twice now, although I think it will eventually corrode the 'o' rings on the frother, still cheaper than buying a new frother part each time though.
If it still doesn't work after that, the only other reason for this problem I found mention of was caused by a broken rubber seal where the milk jug fits to the machine. It's most likely to be milk fat deposits inside the frother though.

You can download the manual from the manufacturer's web site at
Descaling instructions are on page 12.
