You can use just about any WATT power supply. The demand of wattage is limited to the use of each item that the computer needs to operate correctly. So you can't blow out your system if you install everything correctly and properly. So you could install a 1Giga Watt with safety. Make sure that the power supply that you get fills the needs of your video card.. Reference the video card box for the proper Power supply..

I have an old Alienware Hivemind PC circa 03. Power supply is dead. I called the new Alienware A.k.a Dell and they said They didn't sell a replacement part since it is 7 years old. My question what power...

Take your desktop computer (and the dead power-supply) to any computer-store. They can sell you a "generic" power-supply that will be compatible with your original power-supply.

Hint: the smaller the computer-store that you go to, namely a "mom-and-pop" company, the more-likely that they will install it for free, if you buy the new power-supply from them.

I have spent hours trying to figure out how this damn thing works since the instructions require the user to have way more computing skill than I. First, the thing comes apart, one part being the interface and additional power supply and the other being the power supply that may connect to the Coolmax or your HD power supply if not operational through the Coolmax. If your old HD is larger than 3.5", you may have to connect the power plug to the HD 4 pin power source. otherwise, connect old HD to the Coolmax CD 350 adapter and then connect the Support USB2.0 to a USB interface on your new computer. If your old HD is a 2.5 SATA , do not connect the red power plug to a USB2 interface on your new computer unless you are positive the old HD operates over 5V. Connecting the red USB power source to your new computers USB2 interface may cause the old HD to shoot sparks and smoke, and you will not need the device any more.

i think you need to take your laptop to computer shop for repairing. your system's operating system might be crash so you need to do either recovery or do a fresh installation of opearting system by putting the os cd in your cd/dvd drive.

check the power supplies you have if it is working well. then reset cmos.
then if it would not power on, your motherboard maybe a deadset (meaning dead/unusable).

I can already tell this isn't going to be an easy one. Let's try a few more things.
  1. Unplug the power supply from everything inside the PC. Leave it plugged into the AC cord. On the main motherboard (ATX) power connector, find the pin that goes to the green wire. Use a modified paperclip to short that pin to the next-door pin that should have a black wire. This should cause the power supply to turn on and you should hear its internal fan spin up. If not, this could be a sign the new power supply is also dead.
  2. Plug the power supply into only the motherboard and AC cord. Remove all unnecessary PCI cards and peripherals. Also, if the system has multiple RAM modules, remove all but one. This should leave the power supply, motherboard, video card (if it's not built in), CPU, and RAM as the only items connected. Power up the system and see if anything acts differently.
  3. If there are multiple RAM modules, try every different combination of modules and slots.
  4. I will ask this only because I've done it myself. In the swap between the old and new motherboards, did you verify there were no extra mounting stand-offs that might be touching something on the bottom side of the motherboard? If old and new motherboards are the exact same model, this shouldn't be an issue, but you never know.
  5. Verify there are no jumpers on the new motherboard that might need to be set for the front side bus, memory speed, etc.
  6. Ask your friends, family, and neighbors if anyone has a Pentium 4 in an LGA775 package that you could "borrow" to verify it's not your CPU causing the troubles.

Computer dead

Sounds more like a power supply problem. Easy fix just install a new power supply or try it with a known good supply.
