SOURCE: Viewfinder shows only streaks

Hi Kenopin, my Konica Minolta A1 camera failed (stopped capturing images) during 2007 with similar symptoms. The sensor used in the A1 and many other cameras/camcorders of that vintage were made by Sony and have been recognised as subject to failure due to an Integrated Circuit packaging failure. Sony bought the KM company and from April 2006 have aranged support for KM products. Sony have generously offered to repair failed cameras of that era, at no charge, when the failure is due to a failed Sony sensor. My camera was repaired by the appointed Australian service company and returned within 3 weeks - I only paid the postage to send it in for repair.
You should make enquiries re your camera problem with the Sony Camera Support Center in your location.

Camera won't take pictures.

Go into the settings and select Clean CCD. It should be under the blue menu. The shutter curtain has a tendency to stick on this model. There was a recall on them way back when they first came out. 1a53cc1b-6da0-4b38-942c-78caadf51633.gif 1bcf9dee-9615-448f-a170-16ef0e446320.gif

Where do you insert a sim card into a minolta maxxum 5 camera

Cameras, especially film cameras, do not use "SIM" cards. There were some models of Minolta film cameras that used exposure cards for auto-settings but only cellular phones and devices with cellular interfaces (iPads) use SIM cards. Here's a copy of the Maxxum 5 manual if that helps.

I need a rechargable battery for my minolta dynax 7000i camera

The Minolta Dynax 7000i uses a 2CR5 battery. This is a disposable lithium battery. As far as I know, there is no rechargeable equivalent.

Light meter or not on Maxxum 4

Yes, it has program, aperture priority, shutter priority and manual modes. The aperture and shutter settings should be visible on both the right hand top plate LCD panel, and also in an illuminate LED panel below the image in the viewfinder.

From memory (and I might be wrong) the Dynax 4 (Maxxum 4 in North America, Dynax 3 in Asia Pacific) light meter simply indicated a plus or minus symbol to indicate over or under exposure for the selected combination of shutter and aperture. The viewfinder display would have a steady dot to confirm confirm focus follwed by the chosen shutter speed and aperture setting.

I cannot find a link to anything other than a German manual, but the diagrams and a bit of mental application will go a long way if you don't understand German.

Note that if your camera's electronics have failed then there's nothing you can realistically do other than to replace it. Spares are not available and as a consumer level model it was never really intended to be serviced or repaired.

When I look through the viewfinder of my camera I see blue streak

This isn't really a solution, but when I check "I have  similar problem", it takes me to a different page all together. The first time I heard about a blue glow in the viewfinders of late-model Maxxums was in reading an eBay guide written by J.D. Katz. I didn't really believe him until my own Maxxums started doing it. Apparently Maxxums 3, 4, 5, GT, QTsi, STsi, HTsi, XTsi and probably the 50 and 70 are susceptible. All were assembled in either Malaysia or China and all have penta-mirror viewfinders. Both my Maxxum 5 and my XTsi just recently started doing it: the 5 has sapphire-blue streaks on either side of the viewfinder; the XTsi's viewfinder has just a faint blue haze. Probably some coating on the glass inside the viewfinder is breaking down with age. It's a shame because they are otherwise excellent cameras. While it is an annoyance, it is confined to the viewfinder and should not affect the images taken. Probably won't have much luck getting Sony to do anything about it either, since they're film cameras and they're getting old....

My Monolta Dynax 5D judders on startup, then the shake reduction display flashes then it wont take pictures or turn off. It just shows br1 in viewfinder display

It would appear from other sites and users that the anti-shake mech has failed and the cost to repair outweighs the value so I will stick with my SonyA700, sell the lenses and filters I dont need and scrap the body. Thanks for the reply.
