SOURCE: vg2230wm monitor Will not power on

probably your power supply. Is it a cord direct from plug in for is there a box between where you plug it in and then a small round end that goes into the monitor. This would be the good news. If it plugs in direct then that means the power sopply is in the monitor itself which means more expensive to fix

SOURCE: Monitor display stays for a few seconds only but has power always

I have the exact same issue with mine. Viewsonic VX2235WM turns on fine for about three seconds when asked to by my software attempts, but then shuts into sleep mode. I agree completely with BudMrtn. The issue is that your monitor has been through some stress and one if not multiple of the problems is due to part failure. In this case I would suggest a capacitor issue. First off make sure, for a fact, that you have the appropriate drivers. ( For Windows 7 I would suggest using the unsigned drivers from Viewsonic for this model. Now the reason that it is cutting off after a few seconds is because one of the capacitors is not sustaining a charge. It is showing as on for a sec because it is getting the appropriate power to operate but it is not receiving the appropriate level to maintain and is either shorting or free flowing the voltage inappropriately. Now the real question is... do you fix this issue. Well the monitor isn't the most expensive, but it is nice and would be worth the trouble. I would suggest you take a practice run on yours to learn a little something about repairing this level of issue. It is not a very hard fix but it is a very technical one. Understand that to you it is dead already, so what is the worst thing you can really do to it. Use absolute caution when handling these type of repairs. Make sure it is unplugged and use a muli-meter to find your short. I suggest you try and repair this because it is not as dangerous as a CRT. With a CRT you have to watch for residual charge... now you are looking for a busted capacitor which you must realize does retain a charge and electrocution can and more then likely will occur. Use a surge protector in case you screw up. Now if I am right the capacitor you are looking for is not holding a charge so residual charge is probably not going to be an issue... but you never know. Also always keep in mind that even though we have the exact same result, the issue may be varied to a degree of almost infinity. It smells like poo, it looks like poo, it even taste like poo, but it might be a ham sandwich, or a pigeon. My point to all of this is that you should not look at this as a downed monitor, instead you should view this as an opportunity to better get to know your electronics and how to repair them. Have fun and good luck.

SOURCE: My monitor is properly connected to power supply and to the cpu . However, it will display turns totally blank. Light off the power switch remains on though.

Hello,

This is a common issue with the VA1912 units. The black screen is caused by a failure of the filter capacitors on the power supply board. You can replace the capacitors and the monitor will be as good as new. Here is a link to some information on the capacitors needed to build the power supply board.

Hello,

You have one of two things wrong. One the new power supply board may be bad, we have seen quite a few power supply boards purchased on Ebay that are just as bad as the ones people are trying to replace. They send them to us for repair along with the original board and both have bad capacitors installed. Many of these boards are coming in from PC recyclers that are just striping monitors for parts and not rebuilding the boards before the sell them. Check the tops of the capacitors for bulges if you find any them the board is bad.

If the board is in fact good then the cause is bad florescent back light bulbs in the display panel. When the fail they pull to much current trying to light up and this trips the over current circuit in the power supply board which shuts the power supply down to prevent damage and this turns off the display. The bulbs can be d but this will be a very involved project. You can do a Google search for instruction on this process but keep in mind this bulbs are very fragile and thin, easy to break.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions just reply to this answer.

The Dell AS 501 monitor display comes and goes off in seconds. If I switch off and on again, the display comes back and goes off again in less than a second. I repeat this as many times the same monitor...

This sounds like the power inverter is failed.. It's what pumps up the power for the light in the monitor.
You could try unplug the sound bar from the back of monitor if you have the sound bar installed. Just a maybe..
To fix the inverter (replace) is usually better to buy newmonitor unless you do it your self.
The defective LCD Backlight inverter will cause the following symptoms:
  • No Display, but Power Indicate light stay on green (Or Blue).
  • Screen flash on and off and the power indicate light stays on green (or Blue).
  • Dim Display

VG2230WM (Black, Gray) LCD Monitor: Will not power up, no LED power light...

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Monitor screen begins as computer is booting up and then screen goes black. Message says there is no signal.

If the power light dims or changes color after the no signal message comes up, that means the monitor went to sleep.
While the monitor is plugged in and on and the computer is also on, Try unplugging the VGA cable from the monitor. wait 30 seconds and then plug it back in o see if the power button light comes back to normal color and the screen flashes on.
If not, then the monitor is not getting a signal from the computer.
If using a desktop computer,Try a different cord or try the monitor on another computer.
If using a laptop, you need to activate the laptop to use an external monitor. That can be done through the display settings, OR, most laptops have a shortcut key feature which usually involves pushing the Fn key and one of the F keys at the same time. The F key may say CRT/lcd or have a picture of a monitor and a screen.
If the power light does light back up and still no picture, There may be an internal issue on the monitor

X2 gen 17" lcd monitor, no display

This indicates either a problem with the monitor cable(ie shorted) or the display adapter. Try plugging the monitor into a different computer and if it works you will need to install a new display adapter in your computer. If it doewn't work on the new one either you can try a different monitor cable if yours isn't permanently connected. Hope this helps

Philips monitor

Sounds like you have a bad inverter. You will need to open up the monitor to get to the screen to access the inverter board and replace it. If you are handy you can do the job yourself but if not then you will need to take it in to a computer repair shop to have it serviced. Depending on how old this monitor is, the cost of the repair maybe prohibitive.
