There are no downloadable versions of the manual. The G5 manual is out of print, but you can buy any of the G series manuals...they're all the exact same machine.

SOURCE: Kirby G5 manual lost

NO. Use it right after you done shampooing so fibers will dry in that particular position. Do not expect to look it great for too long though. If you want to I"impress" - fluff FROM a light source so carpet reflects more light and looks cleaner and bright. Kirby sales people use this all the time :-)

SOURCE: Kirby G5 rear wheels lock up completely when in "Drive"

When wheels lock when vacuum is OFF - it is normal. If it happens when Kirby is ON then there are a few things that may have gone wrong

Primary drive belt is broken or something is wrong with plastic gears. See how to check the primary drive belt HERE.

If it is fine and gears are spinning - then something must be wrong inside the transmission. Parts for tech drive are not available from manufacturer so you are on your own. It is not really complicated - 2 clutches that engage and disengage depending which direction you push the vacuum. But if something in there is broken - you have to get a new tranny. It is not like getting a transmission for a truck but it still will set you back by about 100 $.

Good Luck
Rocky

Not sure about the parts and what they do

Hi There,

First for your Shampoo attachment, all Kirby generation models came with this carpet shampoo attachment. It really does do a nice job at cleaning carpeting and rugs. In terms of how you use it, here's two links for you, the first is written instructions on how to use it, and the second is a video that shows you how to attach it to your Kirby and use it. In the video it's actually the Kirby Sentria that they use, but the procedure on converting it from a vacuum into a carpet cleaner are the exact same for the Sentria as they are for your G5.

Written Instruction Manual For Kirby Carpet Shampooer

Video Instructions On How To Install & Use Kirby Carpet Shampooer Attachment.

Now in terms of the other part that you were asking about. I believe the part your asking about is called the Intake Guard. I think this is the part that you're asking about, here's a picture of the Intake Guard:

979c8e0.jpg
The Intake Guard is connected to the front of the machine only when you want to convert your Kirby from a vacuum cleaner into a blower. This protects anything from going into the fan while it's being run, as well as pushing the safety switch that allows the machine to turn on.

I really hope that this information was helpful to you. If you have any follow up questions, or need further help with your new Kirby G5, please don't hesitate to add a comment here on the Fixya repair page, and I'll be more then happy to answer any and all of your follow up questions.

If you found my repair helpful to you, please be so kind and rate my repair helpful, or leave feedback. This is greatly appreciated by the Fixya community.

Thanks again,

How To Attach The Carpet Shampooer To A Kirby Generation 5 (G5) Vacuum Cleaner

The Kirby carpet shampooer is an attachment that is used with the Kirby upright vacuum cleaners. It converts the Kirby from being used as a dry pickup vacuum, into a carpet shampooer and extractor. Unlike other carpet shampooers and carpet extractors, the Kirby shampoo system does not saturate the carpet with a lot of water when cleaning. Kirby shampoo systems use a special dry foam formula that gently cleans the carpet without saturation.

Installation

The link below is to an excellent, easy to follow and understand video that will explain step by step how to convert the Kirby Generation 5 (G5) from a vacuum cleaner into a carpet shampooer. Please note that the vacuum in the video is actually a newer Sentria model, however the repair procedure is identical on the G5 as it is on the Sentria.

I need instructions on how to attach the Carpet Cleaner attachments to a Kirby Ultimate ( about 7 or 8 years old )

Greetings,

If you click the link below it will take you to a video demonstration that explains step by step what you need to do to convert your Kirby into a carpet shampooer. The vacuum in the video is the Kirby Sentria, but the procedure is the EXACT same as it is on your Kirby Ultimate G, just as it is with Kirby Generation 3, G4, G5, G6, etc. All Generation models have the same process of converting the vacuum into a carpet shampooer.

Can't seem to pick up small items like lemon pips with Kirby G5. It just runs over them or pushes them backwards and forwards.

It sounds like your belt is broken, OR your beater bar is rotating but has not been adjusted downward to reach the carpet pile. Check by running the vacuum and looking to see if the beater is moving.

Bobbing up and down?

its more than likely the pile of the carpet is a little tighter in some areas of the carpet than it is in others. and, then you have to concider the grain of the carpet. I know your going GRAIN ?? what the ??? and scratching your head but yes even carpet has a grain. mine does the same thing and i have noticed that when i change directions over the same area it will not bob.
